The 2 am drive from Lahaina was rough but the sunrise was amazing. Had a blast coming Haleakala and those views! Follow the rules and use the brakes, you build up some speed

Our guide Rory was the best. So much history and joy for what he does. He was so awesome about making sure we got pictures - he went out of his way to get one of me and my husband with the sun rising between us, which was so special to have from our honeymoon! The company was clear and direct, we felt very prepared and safe going down the mountain. We got a flat tire and he drove to us with a new bike for my husband. Then he offered to take some pictures of us at the 22 mile marker! Advice - it's COLD at the top. I wore leggings under sweatpants, a zip up under a fleece, gloves, and a hat. TAKE THE RAIN GEAR for extra warmth and in case it does rain it holds up very well. Some people turned their nose at the rain gear and we heard them all regretting it at the top. Hand warmers would have been the icing on the cake for an extra comfortable time at the top. Self-Guided is totally the way to go! Stop at Freshie's on the way down in Makawao. And the doughnut shop. The view is unlike anything I've ever seen <3
