Great to experience the sunrise from the top of the volcano and biking down at your choice of guided or self-guided is perfect flexibility. Wish the Kula Lodge would not have been closed for a private event, would have been the icing on the cake. But great place for breakfast next to the bike shop when you return. Only negative was a bit too much tour guide speaking before we actually could get the bikes and go. Some history is good, but other buses in the tour were held up by ours as the self guided group had to go first.

This was such an amazing experience! I was so nervous about this but as soon as we got going on the bikes I felt safe and at ease. So if you are unsure about this, just go for it and do it! You won't regret it!! The bikes were legit and the staff so nice and helpful and made sure you were taken care of. The sunrise was breaking taking.

Excellent experience!!! Bike Maui did superb job of educating & preparing us for a successful ride down the crater. Highly suggest doing this 1st-2nd day after arriving because your body clock is already off from the time change. For self guided tour, you drive yourself to their place. We stayed in Kaanapali so it was hour drive. We left at 1:45 am to arrive at 2:50(3:00 check in). Eddy “buddy” was AWESOME!!! He’s funny, shared history, stories and a few bad dad jokes! Much welcomed at such any early hour. They provide a very nice rain jacket and backpack. bikes were top notch and easy to maneuver. SLOW & STEADY on brakes and you’ll do great. I brought rain jacket and used theirs! You want the rain jacket for wind protection at beginning of ride & rain at end of ride (pop up showers are real in Hawaii). Highly recommend listening to ALL their instructions about the turns you make on the ride. They did an EXCELLENT job making it very clear so we didn’t get lost and you have map on your phone. The views were beautiful and the sunset was excellent! Highly recommend this activity, must do on Maui!!!
