The views of the island were spectacular! We went on a perfect morning in which the weather cooperated and gifted us with the most beautiful sunrise I have ever seen! The tour guide was great and very funny! The bike ride down was exhilarating. This was a great experience and would highly recommend to anyone who comes to Maui.

We originally signed up for the guided tour, but when we arrived at the Bike Maui shop, we realized we wanted to be self guided because we both regularly ride bikes. If you are a bike rider in any shape, you may want to do the self-guided tour so that you can be a little more on your own once you get on the bike. The tour starts with a bus ride up to the summit of Haleakala. Our guide on the bus was super informative and really energetic given how early in the morning it was. It's cold at the top, so dress appropriately with layers as you would a winter bike ride. The bikes are hard-tail, disc break MTBs, and fun to ride. The downhill ride is a bit intense. It doesn't take much effort, but it is FAST. You will be riding in the road, so make sure if you do the self-guided tour, you are familiar with road riding and are comfortable with it and cars. If you want to make this 5+ starts, provide hand warmers for sunrise :-D
