What To Expect

Wailua River State Park

Paddle the majestic Wailua River for 2 miles each way (4 miles total round trip), original home of the first Hawaiians, who paddled 1500 miles from the Marquesas Islands to Kaua`i almost 1500 years ago. Hear the legends and learn about the flora and fauna of Kauai`s most sacred area.

Secret Falls (Uluwehi Falls)

After hiking 1 1/4 miles through the rain forest our guides will take clients to Secret Falls also known as Uluwehi Falls. This beautiful waterfall cascades 110 feet into a refreshing swimming hole, where they can go for a dip and enjoy a terrific lunch! You will then hike 1 1/4 miles back to your kayak (2 1/2 miles of hiking round trip) Bring Closed Toed Shoes / Reef shoes / Teeva Style Sandals

The tour itself is nice. there were 8 pairs in our group. it was pleasant overall if a little disorganized. the place were you meet is not obvious to find (it has a different name) and they rush you too much in the kayaks on the river. but overall it was good for the price

This Wailua River kayak tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Kauai for our 40th wedding anniversary. I would rate it as moderate for difficulty for older folks like us. Take the earliest tour possible. It was very tranquil going up the river at 7:30am because there weren’t too many people there but coming back there were a lot more kayak tour groups and other larger motor boats coming up so not as much. The hike was relatively easy except for a few spots of wading through the river and climbing up but once you get to the falls it is all worth it. Our guide, Tallis was very knowledgeable about the area and made a beautiful spread with pineapples and sandwiches for our lunch at the falls. The Secret Falls were beautiful and some people swam behind the falls. I would recommend you wear good shoes that can get wet but have good traction since the river rocks are slippery. It was good our guide gave us walking sticks. My husband wore swim shorts and he got some cuts from the branches while hiking. Thankfully I wore long swim leggings so I was fine. Also it would have been good to have put on bandaids around our thumbs for the kayak portion because my husband got blisters but our guide had some bandaids so after that it was better. Over all we enjoyed the experience. I would do it again and recommend to others.

Our greeting at Rainbow Kayak Tours was great. The tour guide, Zach, was knowledgeable, professional, attentive and made the trip a complete joy. The environment speaks for itself... beyond beautiful. The kayak trip was about 2 miles, a 1 mile hike through trees, rocks and river crossings. My 12yr old daughter was in heaven. The morning tour was perfect. It was already warm at 7am. The waterfall was just starting to get crowded as we were leaving. Highly recommend and would do it again. Thank you Zach!!
