All photo tours include hands-on coaching and instruction to help you improve your photos both artistically and technically. Most tours include two guides, a husband and wife team who are skilled, award-winning Nature & Fine Art photographers. You get lots of personal attention and guidance, and tours are customized to the types of photography and natural locations that interest you the most.

Even though my originally sceduled all-day vacation photo shoot had to be cancelled due to a winter storm warning with heavy snow and black ice, Chris offered me a post-processing option to teach me the basics of Lightroom & Photoshop. He arrived at my hotel during the worst of the storm armed with two laptops and spent several hours of patient and detailed instruction on these software packages. By the end, I was able to skillfully transform my worst photos into ones I would be proud to show anyone! I would most definitely book again with Asheville Photo Tours if my travels bring me back to the Asheville area (but I think i'll try a month other than February!)

Flexibility in the face of changeable weather conditions is an important quality of any outdoor photographer! I was glad that we both were able to shift gears to advance your photography practice in post-processing since the weather didn't cooperate for the outdoor experience! Anyone with teenagers knows the challenge of trying to find something to do with them. I took my daughter on a photo tour with Chris and Bonnie and she loved it. We used our iPhones and learned how to take breathtaking pictures as well as have a great time visiting waterfalls in the Asheville area. As she put it “Dad, I totally upped my game (with regards to iPhone picture taking). I can’t wait to post these on Instagram.” Chris and Bonnie are very patient and excellent teachers. They also know all the secret nooks and crannies of the Asheville area. We went to a waterfall that is a local secret not mentioned in typical area hiking and guide books. We spend a wonderful afternoon visiting waterfalls and learning how to take both scenic and artistic quality pictures. Lots of fun. Chris and Bonnie are delightful. We learned how to frame a picture, how to use the “rule of thirds”, how to use specialized apps, how to tell a story with a picture, what are the best camera angles and how use lighting to best advantage. They also teach simple and easy to understand tips on shutter speed, focus and exposure control features available on smart phone apps. We learned that a little knowledge can make a huge difference in the quality and impact of our everyday iPhone photos.

Chris and Bonnie were very helpful in providing instruction and advice to improve my photography skills. We had an amazing sunset to photograph on the Blue Ridge Parkway and their coaching was invaluable and helped me learn new techniques. They were also very accommodating as we had to reschedule to a last minute issue on my part. They rearranged their afternoon/evening plans to fit my schedule so that i could join them for sunset pictures. I highly recommend Asheville Photo Tours.
