Haunted Memphis Walking Ghost Tour

Overview
Enjoy the darker side of Memphis and hear tales of the city's haunted heritage as told by professional storytellers. The city’s South Main Historic District – an eclectic, colorful area with some of the city’s oldest buildings – has a long history of sensational murders and ghostly activity. On this two-hour walking tour, you'll visit a number of haunted sites, including:
• The Orpheum Theater, home of "Mary," who has haunted performances since 1921
• The John Alexander Austin House, a Victorian era mansion haunted by star-crossed lovers
• The notorious Ernestine & Hazel's, a former brothel long recognized as one of the most haunted buildings in Memphis. We'll take you inside this creepy establishment, home to several ghosts as well as a haunted jukebox.

This tour was excellent. While we didn't encounter any spirits we did get an amazing history lesson on key spots in Memphis. The walking was easy with frequent stops along the way. Our guide was very knowledgable on not only the haunted spots but other historic places along the way. The tour took about 2 hours to complete. I brought my 11 year old grandson with me and he enjoyed this tour as well. I would highly recommend this tour.

Jay the tour guide was amazing. The experience not so much. We ended up being shot by random people with paintballs. Myself and another parent was hit. After that we did not feel safe and could not finish the tour. Jay walked us back in shock herself and continued to apologize to all.of us. I am just glad it was paintballs and not a real gun. My child was so upset seeing his mom attacked like that and it ruined the experience for us.

Hello, Amy, please see the response to your friend’s review. I’d just like to reiterate I’m very sorry your experience was ruined by such a random, thoughtless thing; it’s the first time anything like that has ever happened on one of our tours. I’ll make sure you and the other parties with you receive a refund, if there’s anything else I can do please let me know.

As much as we enjoyed this tour and the expertise of our tour guide, it is really sad that I have to leave a negative review about the level of safety experienced while walking through these areas of Memphis on a Saturday night at 9:30 pm. We read the reviews and were excited about what we would see, but not being from the area, we trusted that we would not be led into areas where we would not be safe. Our group was shot in the back by paintballs from a moving car while looking at the spot where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. To say that it was scarier than the ghost stories we were listening to is an understatement. A little earlier in the tour we started to question the safety of the area and we should have listened to our instincts. While our tour guide was knowledgeable and the ghost stories and history that she shared were captivating, we can’t help but think about what could have happened. For these reasons, I would not recommend this tour, and I am concerned for the tour guides.

I’m so sorry this happened to you, you’re right that sounds pretty scary! It was obviously a completely random event, and I have to say it’s the first incident of anything even remotely like this in our 14 years of business, over literally thousands of tours. We’ve always taken safety seriously on our tours, and recently in light of both COVID-19 and the protests we’ve of course been paying an even closer attention to the environment in which the tour operates. For the most part the tour stays on well-lighted, well-trafficked city streets in the heart of downtown (indeed, what happened to you happened on Main Street); please know that we would never take you any place that for whatever reason we didn’t feel was safe. I’m glad to hear that no one was injured, and everyone was okay. Needless to say, you’ll all receive a refund for a less-than-stellar experience. If there’s anything else we can do please give us a call and let me know.
