Haunted Memphis Walking Ghost Tour

Overview
Enjoy the darker side of Memphis and hear tales of the city's haunted heritage as told by professional storytellers. The city’s South Main Historic District – an eclectic, colorful area with some of the city’s oldest buildings – has a long history of sensational murders and ghostly activity. On this two-hour walking tour, you'll visit a number of haunted sites, including:
• The Orpheum Theater, home of "Mary," who has haunted performances since 1921
• The John Alexander Austin House, a Victorian era mansion haunted by star-crossed lovers
• The notorious Ernestine & Hazel's, a former brothel long recognized as one of the most haunted buildings in Memphis. We'll take you inside this creepy establishment, home to several ghosts as well as a haunted jukebox.

Tour was good. Our guide Chelsea was quite chatty and liked to tell ghost stories which fitted really well. It was a really hot night. So even though it's late make your drinking lots of water. We don't drink. So it was a nice way to see Memphis and Beale street at night.

First let me say I enjoyed the ghost tour, Chelsey was a fantastic story teller and guide, very enthusiastic, very charismatic, obviously loves what she does which is a huge bonus. The reason I rated it a 4 instead of a 5, and really it should be 4.5, is that there are some historical inaccuracies that a simple google search makes incredibly glaring and while I understand some embellishment is needed for effect, complete omission of facts, and wholly inaccurate accounts, rub me the wrong way. I don't want to list them here in detail because I don't want to spoil the stories, but generally there are a number of big misstatements in the story at Gayoso, and some factual omissions at Ernastine and Hazel's that would make the story even better. That said, it was a good time and a great way to see some really nice sites in Memphis.

I wanted something different to do on this trip to Memphis and the ghost tour was perfect! We checked in at Alfred's with no problems and off we went. There were 18 people of all ages on this tour and I believe that our guide's name was Susie. We stopped at 5 places and our guide was extremely knowledgeable and told us so much history of Memphis along with the ghost stories. I never felt unsafe on our tour and despite the rain, the time flew by! The only thing that didn't go perfectly was at the end of our tour. Our guide told us all to meet at the trolley at 10:10 for the ride back. We all were there on time, but our guide was nowhere to be found. We all rode the trolley back without her because we didn't want to stand in the cold and rain until the next trolley came by. I felt out guide deserved a great tip, but we obviously weren't able to give it to her. I would have no trouble booking another tour with Backbeat Tours!
