Overview

Tour Hawaii Island's only Salt Farm. Recently featured on Guy Fieri's show, we are located on a beautiful 7 acre oceanfront site, in an area that was has been for salt gathering by Hawaiians for centuries and now is part of the Hawaii Ocean Science & Technology Park.

Our Chief Salt Maker brings tradition and modern technology together, she hand harvest the only salt in the world made from Deep Ocean Waters 2,200 feet below the surface.

Your guide will give you a brief overview of the history of our area, the special place salt has in Hawaiian Culture, our salt making process and the centuries-long travel through deep sea currents our ultra pristine and mineral rich water took before arriving to us here.

To finish we offer a salt tasting of our various salts, flavored and smoked.

What To Expect

Our Salt Farm Manager will meet you at our office and give a guided tour of our water source, salt harvesting areas, explain the salt harvesting process, our other deep ocean mineral products and finish with a salt tasting.

A friend and I took the Kona Salt Farm Tour and were blown away by the story of the farm and the making of the deep sea salt. Our guide Ipolani was so knowledgeable. She told us the story of the farm and the salt-making process with humor. There is so much more to making salt than I realized. I learned a lot and enjoyed every minute! We enjoyed the tour so much we also participated in the Cold Water Deep Sea Foot Soak. That was the best!! The water felt so good! Thank you Ipolani for a wonderful experience. I will come again for sure!

Mimi gave us a fantastic tour! I learned a great deal about the business and craft of salt-making and it was grounded in a deep understanding of the coastal Hawaiian cultural and natural landscapes we were experiencing. Based on her recommendation, I also went over to the nearby Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park to visit the historic fishponds. This tour is a wonderful way to immerse yourself in the history and culture of the island and to meet some of the special people who champion all of it. (And the salt tasting changed my palate -- and my life. )
