This is how you should experience the Smoky Mountains. My wife and I have gone on walks with A Walk In The Woods for two years now and I can't say enough good things about them. This year it was the natural pools and waterfalls walk. The walk took us through a peaceful and quiet area of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and by several beautiful waterfalls. Our guide had a wealth of knowledge about the local plant and wildlife. If you're vacationing in Gatlinburg, do yourself a favor and get away from the chaos of the touristy attractions and spend a peaceful day getting in touch with the real Smokies with this company.

I've gone hiking a few times in the Smokies, but in the fall. Wild flower hike was new. So much fun hunting for elusive lady slippers. Went with group of girlfriends, some in their 50s. Guides did great job making sure we didn't overdue it and provided all we needed in equipment, water, snacks, tents. Make sure you BYOB for campfire, get good hiking shoes.

We did the "Walk to Top of Ole Smokey". We hiked to Clingman's Dome via the back way, not the paved 1/2 mile path from the parking lot. It was a great walk and I'm glad we did it, we learned and saw more the of Smokies going with a guide. This was our first guided hike that we have done. However--with teenagers in our group, I think we would have enjoyed the walk more with a younger guide who was more engaging. I'm not saying that our guide was bad, he was very knowledgeable and tried to accomodate the interests of the entire group, we enjoyed our time with him. But if you're going and have teenagers, you might request a guide who is more in-tune with the younger generation.
