I've never had the occasion to see dolphins outside of a marine park before so this tour sounded like a good opportunity to add a life experience while I was in Hilton Head for a conference. Scheduling the tour online was straightforward (I used a screen shot of my ticket to board). I arrived at the Harbour Town Marina about 20 minutes ahead of time. Once there the Vagabond was easy to find. You do have to pay $6 to park in the resort area, this is disclosed in the website.
Once aboard there was plenty of room for different vantage points. The cruise itself does not cover much distance, but rather takes you into the sound toward Daufuskie Island. We went at a low speed so as to observe any nearby dolphins. At first there wasn't too much to see and the pilot narrated about the local waters and the island. About halfway through our cruise we encountered multiple pods of dolphins and the Vagabond was maneuvered to keep us in their vicinity. You don't see them too close, but the dolphin are probably tired of people. I managed a quick glance at a sea turtle alongside the boat, but only for a brief moment.
The return to the marina is quick and the departure easy. The crew were all courteous and I had an enjoyable time well worth the price. I would recommend this cruise as a nice addition to any other planned activities.
