Historic Lafayette Square Shared Walking Tour

Overview
By the end of the civil war St. Louis had more than a few wealthy citizens and no particular "it" spot for them to sink their money. That's when America’s first city park west of the Mississippi began to garner an elite reputation. Socialite names in St Louis had their gorgeous three-story Victorians built here. Little did those people know that a natural disaster would change Lafayette Square forever. We talk about the neighborhood history, explore the park and stroll the streets of the neighborhood.

I mostly enjoyed seeing the architecture more closely and hearing about the newer buildings that they really worked to look as old as those around them. I also appreciated the slower pace that was possible since we were the only ones on this tour time.

Our guide was very knowledgeable of the history of the area and even the succession of various historic structures in the neighborhood.

Tim Metcalf was engaging, knowledgeable, paced our tour well to accommodate my disability and was there to meet us even before our appointed time. He spoke to each one of us in our group, including us all. He answered questions, relayed new fun facts about history of the area and the people who made it. Best tour guide we've ever encountered. Thsnks, Tim
