This exciting tour commences with complimentary hotel pickup. As you make your way to the Hoover Dam, you will travel past Lake Mead, the second largest man-made lake in the Western Hemisphere. The tour will provide you with the opportunity to walk on the top of the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge. Following this stop, you will cross over the top of the Dam with closeup views of the architecture, penstocks and Arizona Spillway. When the Hoover Dam was completed early in 1935, it was both the world's largest electric power producing facility and the world's largest concrete structure, weighing a total of 6.6 million tons. I'd done a tour with a different company the day prior that included a quiet drive out to Boulder City from the Las Vegas strip, but the ride provided by Sweetours was instead very informative and enriching. The driver, Bud, tapped into an apparent wealth of personal experience and knowledge to show us a completely different side of Las Vegas, with a couple of stops along the route to further enhance the experience. He answered every question with solid facts, and provided a lot of color by explaining how and why all the areas we drove through (and some we could see at a distance) were changing over time, for better or for worse. He had a soothing Bob-Ross-style tone that was very easy to listen to and learn from, and he challenged passengers to think though and notice things that he spoke about. This guy is top-notch! It was my only tour with this company, so I don't know if all the drivers are that good -- maybe they are -- or if I just got lucky. I stayed at the Westgate, which isn't "on the strip," but there was no extra charge for being a little farther away -- I was just the last to be picked up and dropped off. Prior to my pick-up, I got a couple of calls from the company's office informing me first of a pick-up delay, and then an update saying that they were getting back on track. The car arrived only about 5-10 minutes after the planned pick-up time, and I was very impressed that they kept me in the loop! They also rescued a couple of people who were stranded at the dam by a different tour company, and I thought that spoke volumes of their level of service. There are only a couple reasons this didn't five stars in my book, and they could all be related. First, the tour was quite a bit shorter than advertised (hotel-to-hotel in 4.5 hours instead of 5.5-6). The elevators at the dam weren't working, which was disappointing but also out of the tour operator's control. (Bud was refunding $5 of the tour price for the inconvenience.) I suspect they didn't know about this ahead of time, but I wonder if it caused the shortened trip... Regardless, though, I really would have liked a little extra time at the dam -- maybe just another 30-45 minutes. As it was, we had two hours, which left enough time for the visitor's center and a walk back and forth across the dam (stopping frequently for pictures), but it would have been nice to have additional time to either go up to the spillway on the other side, or just stand there and admire the awesome views a little longer to soak it all in. It just felt a little rushed to me. Based on my experience, I'd recommend this tour to anyone -- business, solo, families, young, old, etc, even with the current time restrictions... but add a little extra time at the dam and it would be perfect!

We booked a trip to the Hoover dam with a Lake Mead river cruise. Bud picked us up from out hotel and gave us a friendly welcome on arrival. Shortly after we picked up the remaining people from there hotels and headed out to the Hoover dam. Bud was extremely knowledgable about Las Vegas and the history of the surrounding areas. First stop was the dam and everything was made clear as to where we needed to go and times to arrive back. After a great tour round the dam and a great opportunity to take photos we hopped back on the bus and drove out to lake mead. The cruise was fantastic, lunch provided was a choice of ham or turkey rolls. The boat had an onboard bar too if anyone wanted drinks. Bud our driver provided water throughout the day and quickly stopped on the way back to the strip to see the Big Horn Sheep which was an unexpected but nice thing for all of us to see. On the way back Bud offered to drop us on the strip if we didnā€™t want head straight back to our hotel which was great for him to give us that option. I couldnā€™t recommend a better tour guide Bud really did give us a great experience and certainly taught us a thing or two on the way.
