Let me start by saying our guide Kathleen is a true GEM. She was knowledgeable, informative, and entertaining. She was very well versed in the history of Houston, was definitely familiar with the food screen and restaurants all over the city,. She never rushed us and could answer all our inquiries. The experience as a whole was delightful. First stop Space City Birria. Birria Ramen..the food was flavorful and filling but hard to eat…the noodles should be cut in order to be eaten with spoon…twirling it like spaghetti is an option but the container was too small to do that efficiently..interesting concept and cute place for a quick snack. Second Stop Solecita Campeche Pizza was amazing and again a very cute concept with the old bus and air stream trailer for the kitchen..My favorite food on the tour..highly recommend. We had the upgrade drink Package. Their take on Margarita also a winner. There were a couple of pieces of pizza left but we were not offered those. Third Stop. Wokker. Brisket Eggrolls. Delish but we only got 1 small Eggrolls and the upgrade drink was only a jigger of Champagne Why even bother…company should be embarrassed by such a minute amount. Loved the venue Fourth Stop. Little New Orleans Chicken and sausage Gumbo. We got there and they were busy and disorganized. We ended up leaving and returning after fifth stop. The gumbo was too salty..we got water eventually…they should be taken off tour or do a better job. Bad overall impression of this restaurant. Fifth Stop. Carol Kay’s. Biscuits and Gravy were delish. The biscuit was fluffy, gravy great (not enough of it with the large biscuit) severed with fried egg on top and potatoes…a very nice portion however I think the egg took away from the biscuit and gravy…we were served a giant glass of craft beer blueberry/cranberry flavor..it was interesting…glad I tried for the experience. Loved the space it was also in a food hall with a nice view of Main Street. Server explained the way the gravy was made…this is the only place where someone besides the guide interacted with the group. Sixth Stop Phoenicia Specialty Foods. I have been several time and it is always a joy. We had a couple of small pastries which we had to share…if our group had not all known each other I would not have liked as we shared food off same napkin..I think every person should have gotten their own two bite pastry. Stingy portion. I have been on several Secret Food Tours in the states and overseas. I gave this a 4 star ONLY because the Tour Guide was exceptional. It definitely needs to improve the variety of food . The added upgrade drink package not at all what I have experienced with past Secret Food Tours. I think improvement will come with time as this tour has only been available since November in Houston. All in all it was a pleasant and enjoyable experience. I would recommend and also do again.

We had a wonderful experience on the Secret Food Tour of Houston. Our guide Kathleen was excellent because she was a native Houstonian with extensive knowledge of the city past and present along with a culinary degree which made our food experience interesting and delicious. Come hungry for the tour! We thought we would get small bites at each place but the portions were generous and each one had a unique flare. The restaurants we visited were hidden gems which made the tour fun and interesting. A great time!
