The experience description on the website does not remotely prepare you to get completely drenched 5 minutes into the ride. The captain and crew, however, did their best to prepare everyone for realistically what to expect on this small, aluminum boat. 'IMILOA is not a calm cruise like a big catamaran sailboat.
What the website listing won't really prepare you for:
ā¢This is an adventure tour, not a cruise. Get prepared for some rough waves and to be drenched.
ā¢They do have rain jackets available on board, so you don't need to go hunting for semi-affordable waterproof jackets like we did. Thankfully, we do have our own boat and these will be great emergency rain jackets to keep on hand.
⢠You'll get minimal sun. Which is sad, I was looking forward to getting some sunshine, but this is a covered boat except the very front. We didn't go to the front of the boat but once for a sunset photo thanks to our unruly boatmates. More on that later.
The captain and crew were absolutely amazing. If it had been just them and the other parties sans one, it would have been a pleasant experience. What we couldn't possibly prepare ourselves for, and neither could the crew, was "Melissa party of 20" was really 20 college boys boarding with the sole intention on taking advantage of the open bar and getting wasted (around five were the main troublemakers). I had more beer and mai tais land in my face than I actually consumed, and the poor family with two smaller children definitely had a terrible time because of this party. Definitely not the "first date night since having a child" me and my husband had in mind thanks to this group, but if they're booked & paid, what more can the crew do but try to manage.
All that being said, as on any boat that can hold 35-40ish people, you're rolling the dice on who else might make or break your outing. Prepare yourself for anything, because we definitely were not! The crew did a great job trying to manage the group, except someone continued to give "party-boy-Joey" alcohol right up until we reached the harbor.
We couldn't hear half of what our captain was trying to tell us because the large group wasn't interested and being far too loud for the rest of the boat to hear, so we had to ask the crew to repeat and expand on what she had said. The crew were all island natives and so knowledgeable.
10/10 would recommend based on the crew alone. Simply outstanding.
6/10 would recommend IMILOA for a sunset tour. (If you're looking for a calm cruise, this is not it.)
9/10 would recommend the rest of the patrons on the tour.
0/10 would recommend going on half a boat of barely-drinking-age college boys.
