Our experience with Dale, Dave, or whoever the guide was, was disappointing. We chose a private tour specifically to customize our itinerary, but that wasn’t honored. From the start, the guide was rude and dismissive. We had informed him that some members of our group were immobile and that we preferred not to hike. Despite this, the first stop was a hiking trail that he assured us was easy. We turned back halfway, and upon returning, the guide mentioned that most people spend two hours on that hike. We reiterated our inability to do so. After we had went to downtown and it was a beautiful town. We had a great lunch and decided to be done with the tour, earlier than anticipated.

We wanted a smaller experience to really see what Ketchikan had to offer. Our fantastic guide & new friend Shannon was spot on. As a native of the town, she gave us a personal tour of her favorite places. We stopped for great coffee at her favorite shop, she took us to the best places to see the salmon run, we hiked to some of the off beaten paths and got seaweed facials and literally went to the end of the road. She gave us all the details about the area, the totem poles, the bears and waterfalls. We spent the day just laughing like she was an old friend. It was the best trip we took in Alaska and made us feel like locals and not tourists.

Our guide was April and she was great. It's a small island with not really much to see. The best you can hope for is to see a black bear. April was determined to make sure we saw a black bear. And we did! One bear got pretty close to our elevated spot and we took some amazing videos and photos.
