What To Expect
1
Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway
A masterpiece of artistic engineering, this byway includes spiraling bridges, hairpin curves, granite tunnels and awe-inspiring views. No wonder it was named one of the 10 Most Outstanding Byways in America. At its peak is Norbeck Overlook. The overlook takes you to great views of Mount Rushmore, Black Elk Peak and and its a great platform to view the setting sun and pause for stargazing . . . multitude of stars, constellations, and even galaxies.
2
Iron Mountain Road
After the stargaing on our return home, we drive Iron Mountain Road and its pigtail bridges, magnificent views through the one-way tunnels that frame the lighted national monument. We pause for photos.
3
Mount Rushmore National Memorial
Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a massive sculpture carved into Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills region of South Dakota. Completed in 1941 under the direction of Gutzon Borglum and his son Lincoln, the sculpture's roughly 60-ft.-high granite faces depict U.S. presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. The site also features a museum with interactive exhibits. At sunset the rangers provide a progam that honors our veterans, including a patriotic movie and the lighting of the mountain.

Hi Brittany - I'm very pleased you enjoyed your Jeep Bison Tour with Doug. Doug is new with us this season but has lived in the CSP region for many years. He is our 'Beast' Jeep Bison Safari guide and knows the Park very well. Thank you for taking time for your review. Be Well - Rich

Hi George - Thank you for taking time for your review. You came at the right time as the rain has greened up the park. I'm glad you enjoyed your Jeep Safari with Doug. Be Well - Rich

Overall, I would say that this was a good tour. It was nice to have somebody drive us through Custer Park and give us history and show us the bison. I did not know that we were also going to see the needles highway, which we had already seen the day before. By the time we did this, we were already tired from seeing the bison and the Custer national park. My suggestion would be to ensure that you’re doing multiple towards you know exactly what they’re going to show you so you don’t have repetition . For me, this tour could’ve been about three hours max instead of the six hours that it took . They would’ve been nice to skip lunch and needles highway, but that’s just me. I do recommend the tour, however.

Hi JJ - Thank you for taking time to review your tour. And thank you for your recommendation. Be Well - Rich********** For our future guests. JJ is correct, check the itineraries of our tours prior to purchase and in making additional self touring plans. Both our website and Viator list the itineraries for each tour we offer. And you can always contact us if you have questions. Lastly to clarify - Custer Park is the nation's largest State Park (not National) and includes: Needles Highway, Iron Mtn Road, Sylvan and Stockade Lakes, Wildlife Loop, Bison Center and State Game Lodge. It is a five hour tour from Keystone and six hours from Rapid City (longer if buffalo are blocking the road). Thanks and Be Well - Rich
