What To Expect
1
White Mountains Visitor Center
Our drive down the famously scenic Kancamagus Highway begins at the White Mountain Visitor Center. Get ready to see all the best sights the majestic White Mountains have to offer, and hear about the land's history, the Native American tribes who lived here, and the legends about how this mountain range formed. We'll start by hearing about the famous Old Man of the Mountain, the story behind the highway's fabulous fall colors, and the legend of the celestial bear who created the Milky Way galaxy! Next, we'll get some tips about moose-spotting and bird-watching.
2
White Mountains
As we drive, we'll fill you in on how the White Mountains actually formed, and why they continue to draw over a quarter of a million visitors every single year. Would you believe this mountain range began back when dinosaurs still walked the earth?
3
Hancock Overlook
An optional detour will take us to Hancock Overlook, our first really excellent glimpse of the majestic mountains.
4
Mount Washington
Continuing along the road, we'll finally get a good look at Mount Washington, the most famous of the White Mountains and the highest peak in the entire Northeast. Here, we'll learn about the origins of the mountain's name, and how it fits into the Presidential Mountain Range. We'll also see Mount Hancock, another towering summit in that same range.
5
Pemigewasset Overlook
Another optional detour will take us to the Pemigewasset Overlook, which offers a stunning view of the sparkling Pemigewasset River. Here, we'll learn about the importance this lifegiving river once had to the tribes who lived here.
6
Sabbaday Falls
Our drive continues to the Sabbaday Falls, a series of picturesque cascades in a narrow flume. But you'll find more than just the falls enthralling here! Depending on the season, the pools below can take on a deep, enchanting emerald color.
7
Mount Chocorua
The next stop on our drive is Mount Chocorua, another of the White Mountains' most awe-inspiring peaks. We'll learn not just about the mountain itself, but also about the chief for whom it is named, and the mystery which surrounds him.
8
Albany Covered Bridge
Our penultimate stop will be at Albany Covered Bridge, a humble piece of architecture that nonetheless proved invaluable to the settlers of the 1800s. We'll learn about how such a small structure can make a huge difference in the wilderness. Next, we'll get the truth about Wigwams and the revenge-driven Saco River Curse. Then, we'll hear the unlikely feud between one of America's richest families and a bunch of beavers, as well as the story of the last member of the Pennacook tribe.

We are so happy that we downloaded this app because it made our time spent on the byway so much more enjoyable!! It was wonderful to learn about the history of the area and the information helped us choose which stops we would enjoy the most.

Thank you so much for your feedback! I’m thrilled that my tour of the Kancamagus Scenic Byway added to your learnings and that you enjoyed it. I also have 100 other self-guided tours for other parks, scenic drives, cities, and historic sites in the US — hopefully, you’ll get the chance to try them next time! Also, just to remind you, the tour you bought is yours for a lifetime. So, you can listen to it at home or on your next visit.

We loved it for the first few minutes and REALLY wanted to listen to the stories and descriptions. Actually, we would still like to.... But we stopped for a picnic lunch, paused it and were never able to hear from it again. I had downloaded it when we had good connections but were unable to find it on my Iphone. Perhaps it is still there someplace, but I searched and searched on my phone and was unable to find it. If the Driving Tour Guides respond to this and can tell me how to access int, I will amend this review. Otherwise, don't get it if you plan on pausing it (for a hike, a lookout, a pitstop or a picnic) and don't know where such info hides on your phone!

Very unfortunate. I would like to know more about the phone you are using. If you are still in the area, please switch to an offline state by turning to the “Airplane” mode. The tour is yours for a lifetime. You can listen to it before, on tour (in Airplane mode if the signal is poor), and after the tour. In addition, I will be happy to offer you a free tour from my 100 tours in the US. Please let me know.

Please give a bit more info to help fix the problem. Typically, the sound issue is tied to Bluetooth to the car speaker. In any case, I will happily exchange the tour with any of my other 100 tours in the US. Please let me know. This tour is yours for a lifetime. You can use it for pictures, a second review at home, sharing with friends, and your next trip here.
