Rent a kayak and kayak in Kāne'ohe Bay when you have a chance! It is such a beautiful place. This was our second time renting a two person kayak with Kama'aina Kayak! The first time we went, we went to the Sandbar and we braved the strong winds. But this review will be about this second time. My partner rented a kayak as a birthday gift. We went on a day that was not as windy (thank goodness) and we went with the intention of going to horseshoe reef so we brought our snorkeling gear. Andy was the guy who helped us out and he was super dope and answered all our questions. He also assured us that even if we wonʻt get to horseshoe reef, there are so many beautiful reefs on the way as well. He made us feel better about going out and the time we were spending to go there. Then we went down to get our kayak and Tom was awesome in telling us how to effectively paddle and who should be doing what in the two person rental (what the front person is responsible for and what the person in the back is responsible for). They were all very helpful and knowledgeable. We went out and it was amazing! You can see some of the reefs as you pass over them! We went to what we hoped was horseshoe reef and it was amazing. You can anchor in a sandy area so you have to look around to make sure that youʻre not anchoring to coral. Tom told us how to anchor it properly as well. So once you anchor and test it out then you are good to go, you donʻt want your kayak to float away! So we snorkeled around half of the reef because it was so long and I started getting cold. The coral was amazing and it looked like a drop off so those parts are always scary to me. We saw this awesome school of fish of the yellow and black ones that have thin wisps at the ends of the top of their bodies (Moorish idol?) so that was cool. There was definitely a lot of fish, lots of smaller fish. Once we were done, we kayaked to another reef to see what we could from the top and then we headed back so we could make it on time. The people there look out for you and wave to you so that you actually get back. They helped us bring the kayak in and we were good to go. Thereʻs a shower you can use and if you borrow a dry bag and cooler, they have a process of where you can put stuff. The staff all wear a mask due to COVID-19 and require that you wear your mask until you kayak out. It was a good trip overall and we will definitely come back another time with family and friends. Mahalo!

Wow! We cannot thank you enough for taking the time to leave such an amazing review! I am so glad to hear that you had this kind of experience, and all great information to pass on. So thank you so much for that, it really means a lot to us and we appreciate it very much. Sounds like Moorish Idols to me, either that or Pennant Butterflyfish. They kind of look similar. Looking forward to seeing you again soon! Mahalo!

We rented a two-person kayak and had a wonderful afternoon on Kaneohe Bay. We marveled at the beauty of it. Andy was super friendly and helpful. The boat was ready for us when we arrived, and he provided us with great information about where to go, what to see, and how to stay safe. All we needed to do was show up. Life jackets, paddles, an anchor, and a waterproof map with environmental educational information were all provided. Andy also shared information about the great work Kama'aina Kids is doing to provide environmental education in a fun, outdoor recreation setting. The proceeds from kayak rentals help to pay for this work and maintenance of He'eia State Park. So this is a great place to sprinkle your money!
