This area was a surprise to us - an old quarry made into a rec area near Colfax. There are fishing areas and you can rent kayaks from Quarry Springs Outfitters during certain times, or bring your own kayak or stand up paddle board. There are marked camping areas nearby the water - we saw 10 with picnic tables and fire rings. There are also trails for hiking. Dogs are welcome on leash. Lots of picnic spaces as well.

Perfect Jewel, and a great escape from the city. Located 25 minutes east of DSM, this outfitter has captured the full Kayaking experience in a perfect setting. Very large lake with opportunities to fish and explore.
