Kayak Tour through Mangrove Tunnels

Overview

Just a few minutes away from all the hustle and bustle of Sarasota is our favorite local beach, Turtle Beach. It is only a few short miles from the main Siesta Key beach to Turtle Beach and the Sarasota County trolley will drop you right there. Not only is this area such a beautiful and quiet place, it is also a great place to paddle!

We start on the intercostal and paddle down a short canal to the Bay. We paddle around the mangrove islands through a mangrove tunnel or two and alongside a bird rookery.

We paddle around the mangrove islands of Jim Neville Marine Preserve and then to a "secret" beach. This beach is only accessible by boat so we may have it to ourselves. Such a beautiful place for a quick swim or just stopping for a few moments to relax. You may want to stay here all day.

This location is home to all kinds of wildlife including manatees (when water temps are warm enough), dolphins, beautiful sea and shorebirds and lots of fish.

Orion was a great guide and very knowledgeable of the area and marine species he was the best part of our tour. The tour was very enjoyable.

The two of us were fortunate to have a tour guide to ourselves. I don’t think that happens that often but it allowed us to have a very peaceful trip through the mangrove tunnels. It also allowed us to ask questions from our very knowledgeable guide, who accompanied us on a paddle board.

What a great time we had Kayaking around Lido Key and SurfIT was an outstanding company to work with. Our guide, Chris was awesome, we couldn't have asked for anyone better. He was a wealth of information, gave great instructions and has an amazing talent of remembering everyone's name on the tour and there were at least 15 of us. We didn't get close to any dolphins, but we could see them not far away and the manatees were not around as well, but that's nature...we'll just have to return and try again. Paddling through the mangroves was so cool, just absolutely beautiful and relaxing. Chris also took us out to a sand bar in the middle of the bay where we got out of the boats and walked around in the beautiful water. Overall, an amazing experience that everyone should put on their bucket list.
