Kayaking Brookings Chetco River

Overview
The Wild and Scenic Chetco river estuary in Brookings offers a variety of experiences ranging from frequent Pelican and Kingfisher sitings to neat coves, sloughs and some of the cleanest water on the coast.  The boat basin offers a very easy calm water introduction where you can view the many different commercial fishing boats, Coast Guard vessels and pleasure craft moored up to the docks. Total freshwater paddling distance is about 2.5 miles for the 1.5 to 2 hour tour.

Had a great time in kayaking the Chetco River with a very knowledgeable and fun guide. We are in our 60's and 70's and more or less beginner kayakers. We absolutely loved our guide who was very knowledgeable about the Chetco River history as well as helping my husband adjust the kayak for his back issues. While the day was windy it was not an issue for us in our double kayak. Enjoyed the wildlife along the way...deer, heron...as well as the harbor seal who followed us the entire trip. Highly recommend this tour and would do it again!

Nicholas did a great job! He was very informative and made sure we had a good fit on our PDFs. I plan to join South Coast Tours again next year for an all day coastal adventure

Calm, relaxing kayak up Chetco River. Sight many birds, sealions and fish jumping out of water. Guide really cool guy. Mellow, patient and easy to talk too. Helped me to feel comfortable - no rush and did not mind when I accidently bumped his kayak at times. Very knowledgeable of the local area, animals, fauna, river conditions and whiskey bars. Highly recommend for beginners. Also, my doggie joined me. She was nervous but did not jump out of kayak - tx god!!!!
