This was a pretty cool experience. My wife and I did the two hour rental for Standup paddleboarding. It was my wife’s second time paddleboarding and my first. I fell off the thing about 4 times but all in all I still had a good time. Of all our activities my wife enjoyed doing this the most.
We didn’t do a tour but since it was my first time, one of the Lazydog crew members still took the time to give a mini lesson on how to properly stand on the board, use the paddle and also how to get back on the board after falling off. I greatly appreciated that because as I said, I fell off the board about 3 or 4 times. They also gave us a map and suggestions that we were able to use to navigate the waterways as well as the mangroves.
Paddleboarding through the mangroves was really a whole new experience for the both of us and one I recommend as well. We saw some tiny black crabs that we had never seen before walking on the mangrove branches. My wife and I both mistook the crabs for spiders at first so you might do the same. Going through the mangroves, my wife and I got on our bellies on our paddle boards and navigated using our hands. We think this was probably the best way and probably better than if you were to try going through on a kayak.
Outside the mangroves, I did most of my paddling on my knees especially in the beginning when I couldn’t quite maintain my balance but by the end I was feeling and moving comfortably while standing up. My wife saw a lot of fish that I somehow missed but I was able to see a manatee that she missed. It was an excellent experience and one that I highly recommend. Weren’t able to get any pictures as we had put everything away in our earthpak dry bag. And that’s something I recommend you take with you as well, a dry bag that can hold your belongings and a bottle or two of water.
