Booked the 6:30pm trip. Check in was at 5:50, and we were on the boat around 6:40, and back at 7:30. It's a very short 2 minute ride to the snorkel location - maybe 100ft from the Outrigger resort. Water is definitely chilly, but given the short boat ride and relatively short time in the water (under 30 min). Nobody opted for the $10 wetsuit rental, but next time for comfort I think I would get it (just the top). This is definitely one of the more barebones operations - smaller boat, smaller group, less sophisticated equipment - but it's also one of the cheapest and shortest if you don't want to spend too much time in the water. There's lots of guide operators going to this area - I saw 5 or so leave while we were waiting, all in wetsuits and on larger boats. At the end of the day - it doesn't really matter, since we're all going to the same spot and looking at the same manta rays. It just depends on how long you want to spend in the water. I found 30 minutes to be plenty, especially with how rough the water is in that area, I was beginning to feel seasick. Our guide Chase was awesome - clearly super experienced and we saw 4-6 different manta rays and they really do get inches from your face. The whole time they were just doing flips underwater, definitely a cool and unique experience. There is absolutely nothing to worry about with snorkeling at night - there's so many groups and boats in that area, and it's so close to the shore. Obviously do not attempt if you can't swim and also do not recommend if you haven't snorkeled before, because there is no instruction. This is really the cheapest and most efficient way of seeing manta rays up close.
