Seeing all the different farms and learning so much about the culture and history of Maui. We did a personal tour, just my husband and I. We were able to customize to the tour to our interests and our guide, Rick, was a native and was able to share so many personal experiences about how Maui has changed through the years and where it is going.

This is the worst tour we have ever been on! Ricky talked about himself the entire time! Instead of focusing on Hawaii and sightseeing, Ricky showed us a tree where he hit his head, the medical building where he got treatment, drove by the house they own, drove by relatives houses, showed us a concrete driveway he supposedly put in; it was ridiculous! I fact checked some of the actual tour things they told us and they were incorrect. Marilyn sang and played the ukulele way too much (sheā€™s not a good musician). Viator is not any help when youā€™ve gone in a terrible tour.

Very interesting perspective on what actually happened. We visited beautiful MAUI Bees, where specialty Coffees were enjoyed by all of you, a walk into the gardens, then a beautiful scenic lookout over all of West Maui at Rice Park for photographs taken of you and your group then Alii Kula lavender farm for lavender tea and lavender brownies were served which you seem to really enjoy followed by a walk into amazing gardens of proteas and lavender and a multitude of beautiful plants and flowers. You expressed that you know what a pumpkin patch looks like therefore we decided to skip the pumpkin patch and head up the Kula Highway on a scenic Haleakala Ranch tour followed by Makawao town with that additional highlight at the visual arts Center, then the Haliimaile pineapple camp overview you seemed to love the Maui gold pineapples it was the best youā€™d ever had. As for my ukulele playing you asked me to turn and take a picture because you have enjoyed it. Iā€™m hoping that you will enjoy the gifts I gave you of my 46 line drawings of Hawaii book also. Your husband said that we were great and tipped us generously. After the pineapple we were wrapping up the tour as it is described in my tour information, but you said you thought there was lunch. So my husband graciously took you to a local style restaurant in Pukalani where the four of you enjoyed a full lunch. Itā€™s unfortunate that the copywriters displayed a different overview and they are correcting that. Also we were perfectly on time as i texted you night before the pick up time is 9 AM. We arrived at exactly 9 AM. It was the men who started talking about their pool business and sparked the conversation with Ricky. They expressed excitement about all the different locations they had built Anderson pools!! Canā€™t please everyone thatā€™s for sure.

I would like to preface this experience with the fact that Marilyn had a family emergency occur during when the initial tour was supposed to happen and had to reschedule to a later date, which fell on the day after she returned from the mainland. I'm aware this detail may have contributed to my experience. In summary, the tour was not what I expected. We visited Iao Valley first, which was nice. Then we saw a couple of farms in upcountry, but some of the farms were closed and we didn't visit some of the farms listed on their website. No one from the three farms gave us a tour of the facility, so we didn't get to learn much about the plants or farming techniques. Lunch was not provided or accommodated during the five-hour excursion. The silver lining of this tour was Marilyn herself. Her bubbly personality saved the day. She knows a lot about the island and its plants, and her passion for art is admirable. She also sang us some songs while strumming the ukelele. It was fun getting to know her. From my experience and what Marilyn had shared, there was a heyday for the Maui Country Farm Tours, and now two years post-pandemic, the zest for giving tours has somewhat waned. I do not believe my experience was worth the price point the touring company asked for ($300 pp). That being said, I enjoyed my time seeing some of the local flora and fauna and learning about Maui from a local perspective.

Zoe, I am sorry you felt that way after our wonderful hike in Iao valley, the Kepaniwai cultural center, visiting your heritage, photographing the entire experience, then visiting Kula Country Farms, MAUI bees, having delicious coffees, exploring the garden, the cows and chickens, on a private completely personalized tour! Alii Kula Lavender walking tour by me into proteas in full bloom as Iā€™ve done over 1,000 times.. Iā€™m glad you enjoyed my ukulele. And my designer t-shirts gifted to you at the end of our tour! We walked the gardens, discussed the process of regenerative farming, tasted winter and summer honey. ~ Marilyn
