Overview

Our small group snorkeling tours are locally owned and operated, making you feel like a part of our Maui ohana! Since 1982 we have offered snorkeling trips on our quick and safe rafting vessels to the island of Lanai where we find secret coves, sea cliffs, tropical reef, marine life and dolphins! This trip includes whale watching during whale migration months (December-April). Every ticket supports active marine research and our efforts as part of the whale entanglement response team here on Maui!

Before coming to Maui, we looked at several options for snorkeling. I had not been to Hawaii in 20 years but remembered my experience on one of the big boats. I remembered all the time wasted on preparing meals and taking drink orders and not very much time actually in the water. This trip was selected due to the size of the entire group. We were very surprised by how much time we actually had snorkeling! We visited three spots and they was abundant sea life. With the small group, (about 14 total) we had lots of attention in and out of the water. The breakfast provided was fresh fruit and wonderful banana bread. And if you are worried, there is a bathroom on the boat! When my family comes back next year, we will definitely take another Lanai Turtle Snorkel trip.

Brittany and Vinny provide a world-class snorkeling and dolphin watching tour of natural and man-made reefs off the shore of Maui and Lanai. They strive to find the clearest snorkel sites with a wide variety of fish and turtle viewing, plus dolphins. This small, family-owned business offers a marine biologists viewpoint and sensitivity to the tour, providing interesting information about the various species seen. Great, personable service and tasty light refreshments make for a great outting.

I've done a lot of scuba diving and snorkeling in my life, but my family hasn't. I purposely searched through Trip Advisor to find an outfit that wasn't too large, knew their stuff, and would provide my wife and kids a good time. Ultimate Whale Watch & Snorkel totally fit the bill. Brittany and Hana were awesome in all respects. My daughter didn't have the best experience when we went snorkeling in Belize, so it was important that she get well fitted with the gear and feel at ease. Hana did a great job at both and we've put some of the bad juju to rest. Our first stop outside Lanai'i was *really* good. We totally lucked out with super calm water and clear skies which just made the snorkeling sublime. After an hour or so there, we ventured up North to a spot outside the Kapalua cliff house. No where near as good of coral, but decent fish and a couple of turtles. From there, we cruised by the Spinner Dolphin pod and that was easily the highlight of the trip for the kids. Both Hana and Brittany did exceptionally well at keeping their distance from the dolphins and explain their rationale. We could see another boat doing nothing of the sort. It's important that the operator take care of the resources around them so the dolphins and whales stay safe - it's very obvious that Ultimate WW&S cares a lot. The next time we're in Maui, we're definitely going to go out whale watching with this crew!
