Don't miss. If you can do one thing out of town on your visit to New Orleans, this is it. Learned a great deal about the differences in the plantations from state to state, the crops and economics, the lives and family dynamics of the rich and slaves, and how the plantation system reached into the modern era. Excellent guide. $25 entry for adults.

I guess I thought I would learn about slavery, but this tour was really a story about several generations of the family that lived on the plantation with little focus on slavery. Our tour guide was nice and informative. The plantation was nicely restored and interesting, but this was really a history lesson about a family that lived on that plantation for several generations. This was not a tour to learn about slavery (sure you heard a few stories about slaves, but that was it). There were so many names of family members and slaves thrown around during the tour that at the end, I had no idea who was who. I guess it was my mistake booking this thinking I would learn more about the slavery aspect than about a family's history. My opinion is that if you really want to learn about slavery, do the Whitney plantation tour. If you want to take good pictures, take the Oak Alley tour. If you want a family history tour, do the Laura plantation tour. I also thought there would be a bigger story about Laura, whom the plantation is named after, but I only heard her name a couple of times.
