You'll learn about the industries that once fueled Ketchikan as we leave our dock behind and head out into wilder waters.

View the beautiful Alaska native clan house & totem poles from the water. Our guides will tell you a legend of one of the poles, and discuss Ketchikan's vibrant Alaska native cultures.
3
Ketchikan
Along the first part of our journey, you'll see many local homes dotting our shoreline, some of them even on their own island! We'll tell you about the unique lifestyle of living remote in Alaska.
4
Guard Island Lighthouse
View the historic Guard Island Lighthouse from the water, complete with panoramic views of the seascape beyond. Our captain will discuss it's unique architecture, and share with you some of its history.
5
Tongass National Forest
View the world's largest temperate rainforest from the water. We cruise along the wild shoreline of our remote islands, which are densely populated by Sitka spruce, Western Hemlock, Red & Yellow Cedar, and Red Alder. Captain Jeff made sure that everyone was able to see all of the sights: eagles, totem poles and lodge, harbor seals, and much much more. The snack provided (and the delicious hot chocolate) was a great way to try some new foods.

This was an excursion trip taken off of our cruise ship and very enjoyable. The bus ride in was informative to the local sites and history as you made your way to the dock. Once aboard Capt Jeff and his crew were friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. These local guides took us on a boat ride and showed us one lighthouse, with history and distinction. Despite very choppy waters we were able to get close in for nice photos. We slowed along the shore of a totem exhibit. A local conservatory built a park with multiple tribal totems. The view from the boat was amazing, but the background on the individual totems was a bit lacking. Apparently tribal history and family lore along with special events make each totems specific and unique, but nothing more was explained about the symbolism. But the EAGLES, oh there were eagles. The guides took us passed multiple nesting sites and each location had eagles. We saw mature bald headed eagles and young ones trying out their wings. Alaskan cuisine was provided for us to sample on board free of charge as well as coffee or hot chocolate (which was voted the best in Alaska-by the crew) which was wonderful. It was a great way to sight-see and an enjoyable trip full of local history and flavor. Definitely recommend.
