Lighthouse Excursions is a locally owned & operated Ketchikan tour company, and we pride ourselves on providing guests with an experience of Southeast Alaska through local eyes. Our Lighthouse, Totems & Eagles Excursion is a grab-bag of some of Ketchikan's top attractions, with a little something for everyone. Whether you're a lighthouse enthusiast, a history and culture buff, or love seeing wildlife in their natural environment, this tour is for you! Guests must be able to minimally navigate 3-4 steps on and off our tour vessel and transportation. Wheelchair service to and from the tour vessel is provided for those with limited mobility.

What To Expect

Ward Cove

Our boats are docked inside Ward Cove, which was once of the site of the largest pulp mill in the United States. Remnants of the old pulp mill can be seen on arrival to our dock, as well as from the water. You'll learn about the industries that once fueled Ketchikan as we leave our dock behind and head out into wilder waters.

Totem Bight State Historical Park

View the beautiful Alaska native clan house & totem poles from the water. Our guides will tell you a legend of one of the poles, and discuss Ketchikan's vibrant Alaska native cultures.

Ketchikan

Along the first part of our journey, you'll see many local homes dotting our shoreline, some of them even on their own island! We'll tell you about the unique lifestyle of living remote in Alaska.

Guard Island Lighthouse

View the historic Guard Island Lighthouse from the water, complete with panoramic views of the seascape beyond. Our captain will discuss it's unique architecture, and share with you some of its history.

Tongass National Forest

View the world's largest temperate rainforest from the water. We cruise along the wild shoreline of our remote islands, which are densely populated by Sitka spruce, Western Hemlock, Red & Yellow Cedar, and Red Alder. You'll have plenty of opportunities to observe the beauty of the forest from our tour vessel!

Thoroughly enjoyed this 4th of July trip! By far the NICEST crew I’ve ever been with. All locals, all love their home and it shows. Saw eagles, totems and the lighthouse. Weather perfect. Wonderful afternoon. Highly recommend!!!!

Wow! I will never forget this experience. Very informative and fun. The knowledge of all the crew was amazing. very good at making sure you spot the Eagle's nest etc... All are long term residents, Jeff and Kyle have been best friends since 3rd grade and had lots of great stories about growing up in Ketchikan Was lucky enough to see 2 Orcas by the lighthouse. They give out a salmon tasting plate that is delicious. I purchased a can of the wild salmon for $8. I saw that same can for sale at the airport for $18.99.

Even in the windy, rainy weather, this tour was incredible and well worth the time and money. We traveled with a 14-month old, and the crew was so accommodating and patient with our family and needs. The sights were spectacular, and Captain Jeff was awesome, pointing out eagles, seals, and even orca whales to us. Deckhands Brooke and Kyle were so great as well. Food and hot chocolate served were amazing. Overall a fabulous experience that I’d definitely do again.
