Lovers Key Guided Eco Tour-Mangrove Estuary

Overview

This is a 2 hour and 15 minute tour with Lovers Key Adventures master naturalist guide, Stephen, who expertly guides our guests through the mangrove canopied estuary explaining the importance of the southwest Florida eco-system -the history of the area- from the Calusa Indians, Conquistadors, and Ponce De Leon..on. He finds wildlife and introduces our guests to the various birds, vegetation, dolphins, and manatee (if they’re around that day;) This is one of the unique experiences available in southwest Florida. No tour is ever the same there is no script and many guests return year after year to enjoy Stephen's expertise and the beauty of Lovers Key
Our guests also often take advantage of the beaches and hiking trails offered inside the state park. There are many photo opportunities available to capture the memories of this incredible experience within the natural surroundings of the untouched Florida landscape.

What To Expect

Lovers Key State Park

Lovers Key State Park offers 2 1/2 miles of beach coastline with incredible shelling. There are 5 miles of hiking and biking trails with wildlife sightings daily. The tours take place in the estuary with manatee and dolphin sightings (if they choose to show up) many or most days. 4 hour Kayak rentals are also available at your leisure-unguided with single and tandem kayaks and canoes as well as stand up paddle boards rented by the hour.

Karen was a great tour guide for this kayak tour of the mangroves. We saw evidence of the manatee but they weren't interested in being seen, despite this, Karen kept us entertained with her knowledge of the eco system and stories of her experiences. You will not be disappointed in this tour..great job Karen.

This was our final adventure in Florida on our two week Sister Trip. We booked it for our last day after leaving the condo. It did not disappoint. Our tour guide, Stephen, was so passionate and informative about the estuary at Lovers Key and everything around and in it. It wasn’t far from the launch that we were taught how to spot manatee footprints, and then we actually saw them. We sat quietly and they came to the surface to munch on the mangrove leaves, as we were in high tide. One even did a roll over dance for us. We held sea urchins, clear jellies and enjoyed a two hour plus kayak tour that is perfect for these two sisters that hadn’t kayaked before. We are 60 and 65 and actually would take this tour again because this gentleman has so much knowledge and he explained each day is a different encounter. It will enhance your experience if you have Polaroid sunglasses to see more into the water. We brought cooling towels with us and used them as needed. Be sure to bring water and sunscreen. We froze large bottles of water and that was perfect as temps were high 90’s. And of course a hat or visor. This is a family friendly tour and you will truly appreciate your guide. We had a wonderful time, we learned so much and some some awesome animals! Steve was a great guide! We saw some manatees and fish, birds and lizards. Would definitely do it again!
