Lovers Key Guided Eco Tour-Mangrove Estuary

Overview

This is a 2 hour and 15 minute tour with Lovers Key Adventures master naturalist guide, Stephen, who expertly guides our guests through the mangrove canopied estuary explaining the importance of the southwest Florida eco-system -the history of the area- from the Calusa Indians, Conquistadors, and Ponce De Leon..on. He finds wildlife and introduces our guests to the various birds, vegetation, dolphins, and manatee (if they’re around that day;) This is one of the unique experiences available in southwest Florida. No tour is ever the same there is no script and many guests return year after year to enjoy Stephen's expertise and the beauty of Lovers Key
Our guests also often take advantage of the beaches and hiking trails offered inside the state park. There are many photo opportunities available to capture the memories of this incredible experience within the natural surroundings of the untouched Florida landscape.

What To Expect

Lovers Key State Park

Lovers Key State Park offers 2 1/2 miles of beach coastline with incredible shelling. There are 5 miles of hiking and biking trails with wildlife sightings daily. The tours take place in the estuary with manatee and dolphin sightings (if they choose to show up) many or most days. 4 hour Kayak rentals are also available at your leisure-unguided with single and tandem kayaks and canoes as well as stand up paddle boards rented by the hour.

Took a tour today in estuary of Lovers Key with guide Stephen. He was extremely knowledgeable , excited about the area and telling about it. He was very kind and helpful to a senior who has issues getting in and of Kayaks. Wonderful. He is great with the kids on the tour and we got to be very hands on with the wildlife.

We rented kayaks last year and paddled around the estuary, having no idea what we were missing. This year we took the guided estuary kayak tour and Stephen showed us the ecosystem in a way that we could not have seen on our own. We saw yellow crowned heron, little blue heron, little green heron, a lightening whelk that was producing the egg pods, dolphin, and still more.

For a group of four inexperienced kayakers we found this to be a great outing! Stephen was a great guide, very knowledgeable and caring of the ecosystem. It was a cool day and as a result there wasn't a lot of activity on the water or in the mangroves that we could see. Stephen tried very hard to show us some of the amazing life in the water and along with his dog, Bowser, kept us entertained with his stories and educating us on the plant and animal life. The pace was perfect for us, we didn't feel hurried at all. To highlight our day, as we were heading back to shore at the end of our trip we were amazed to have two manatees appear right beside us! Beautiful gentle giants! I strongly recommend this experience! Thanks Stephen for a great morning!
