Lovers Key Guided Eco Tour-Mangrove Estuary

Overview

This is a 2 hour and 15 minute tour with Lovers Key Adventures master naturalist guide, Stephen, who expertly guides our guests through the mangrove canopied estuary explaining the importance of the southwest Florida eco-system -the history of the area- from the Calusa Indians, Conquistadors, and Ponce De Leon..on. He finds wildlife and introduces our guests to the various birds, vegetation, dolphins, and manatee (if they’re around that day;) This is one of the unique experiences available in southwest Florida. No tour is ever the same there is no script and many guests return year after year to enjoy Stephen's expertise and the beauty of Lovers Key
Our guests also often take advantage of the beaches and hiking trails offered inside the state park. There are many photo opportunities available to capture the memories of this incredible experience within the natural surroundings of the untouched Florida landscape.

What To Expect

Lovers Key State Park

Lovers Key State Park offers 2 1/2 miles of beach coastline with incredible shelling. There are 5 miles of hiking and biking trails with wildlife sightings daily. The tours take place in the estuary with manatee and dolphin sightings (if they choose to show up) many or most days. 4 hour Kayak rentals are also available at your leisure-unguided with single and tandem kayaks and canoes as well as stand up paddle boards rented by the hour.

My brother-in-law and I recently went on a Kayaking tour offered by Lovers Key Adventures. It was a great experience kayaking up and down the mangrove channels within the state park for what turned out to be a 3 hour tour. After a brief lesson and orientation, we first encountered about a half dozen manatees. Some came very close to our kayaks and were very curious and friendly. Along the way, we also saw many egrets, herons and ospreys with fish in their talons. Steve was our excellent guide. Throughout the tour, he gave us all a very educational and enjoyable primer on the mangrove habitat and the associated plants, fish, wildlife and native peoples. Kayaking is a great way to see this environment up close without any interference from noise or other distractions. As a retired marine biologist, I found the tour to be a great experience that was fun, interesting and accessible for all ages and education levels.

As a first timer, I really did not know what to expect. I was more than pleasantly surprised by the wonderful time we had. Our guide took us on a tour through beautiful waterways, where we even got to see dolphins! The price was very reasonable, and he allowed us to take all the time we needed. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

We scheduled a birthday party for an afternoon on the beach and then some kayaking in the estuary. the weather was great and we rented beautiful resort style beach Umbrella's and lounge chairs. The girls said they felt like they were movie stars and I was happy with the service and price, quite reasonable!!!! We had our fill of the beach and arranged to have a self guided kayak tour of the protected estuary. The equipment was clean and ready for us and we had a blast!!! The girls felt comfortable in the resort style kayaks and we had quite and adventure, even though it was super safe and had NO BOAT TRAFFIC at all!!!!! I like that.... I will be back next month for another birthday party!!!! Perfect!!!!!
