The Navajo name for Lower Antelope Canyon is Hasdeztwazi or “Spiral Rock Arches.” This incredible canyon has been created over many thousands of years by the relentless forces of water and wind, slowly carving and sculpting the sandstone into forms, textures, and shapes which we observe today.

The views in Lower Antelope Canyon change constantly as the sun moves across the sky, filtering lights softly across the stone walls. These ever-moving sun angles bounce light back and forth across the narrow canyon’s walls, creating a dazzling display of color, light, and shadow.

What To Expect

Lower Antelope Canyon

A 1 hour guided tour through Lower Antelope Canyon. Learn about the geology, history and the culture of the Navajo people that live around the canyon. Don't forget to bring a camera you will be taking a lot of photos! Antelope canyon is famous for its wave-like structure and the light beams that shine directly down into the openings of the canyon, creating a super natural appearance. Many travellers and photographers have been attracted here, regard it as a place where dreams come true. Different from the flat ground of Upper Antelope Canyon, Lower Antelope Canyon requires visitors to climb upside and down through staircases and ladders. It feels like you are entering a new planet, starting a magical adventure.

Our family of eight completed the Lower Antelope Canyon tour while traveling out west in June, 2023. We thoroughly enjoyed climbing down into and back out of this slot canyon. If you are going to be in the area near Antelope Canyon, this is a MUST DO! Our tour guide, Jose, was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the canyon and he helped us to take some great family pictures with our own phones! It's truly amazing that this beautiful canyon exists under the ground.

We started our tour with a guide named Roc. He was very friendly and very informative. Once we got down into the canyon, Roc pointed out unique formations for photos, even took my camera and took pics of us. It was incredible seeing the beauty below the desert!
