Nighttime draws hip, young crowds to the area's trendy bars, music venues and restaurants. The neighborhood's Jewish heritage lives on through Orchard Street's Lower East Side Tenement Museum and old-world fabric stores, as well as traditional delis such as Katz's and Russ & Daughters.

Essex Street Market
Indoor market with rows of vendors specializing in meat, fish, cheese, produce & specialty foods.

This is an amazing tour. Matt was a great guide. He was extremely knowledgeable. We stopped for a knish, doughnut, candy, pickle, bialy, and more. I look forward to taking other food tours.

Tough to decide what to do with older kids in the city, without them complaining so gave this a try. Matt our guide was knowledgable, organized and personable. Its a legitmate 3hrs but the walking is not crazy, as after all your sticking the lower east side. Plenty of delicious food to try and Matt knew the back story of every place as well as the history of the LES. Learn a bit of history of NYC and eat, thats a winning combination. If you have kids between 13-21, this is great day out.

Our family group of 5 (82, 46, 45, 17, 12) all thoroughly enjoyed the Lower East Side tour. Our guide, Janet, was incredibly knowledgeable and thoughtfully fielded a wide variety of questions. The food portions at each location were so generous; the entire tour was much more than lunch! We were barely hungry for a snack come dinnertime. There’s no way we could visit all of the iconic Jewish establishments within dedicating an impractical amount of time. This was perfect! I’ll be excited to place some mail orders from these food vendors upon returning home.
