Yes, Captain Kauai is really his name and he was wonderful - professional, competent, kept us safe, gave great history, cultural and geographical perspective to everything and can speak Hawaiian. Some of the most spectacular scenery you will every see. The vessel was clean and adequate and staff gave out plenty of drinks. I am giving four instead of five stars because I think some things are misleading. For one, they never put up the sails - that is just for show in the photos. To call it a "sunset dinner cruise" is a bit misleading - that conjures up a glamorous sophisticated image and that is not what it is. You get some food served to you around dinner time - more like a Hawaiian plate lunch - it was tasty. Also, they should have warned us to bring change of clothes and that we could get very wet. We in fact got soaked through. I actually called to inquire what to wear since we were not doing snorkeling and they said just to bring a windbreaker. I think the reason is that the seas were quite rough and waves high - the boat was really rocking. I took Bonine the night before and again an hour before and was perfectly fine. I actually enjoyed going up and down on the waves - we loved it but did get soaked. Wish they had suggested that we bring a change of clothes or underwear. Some people were physically challenged as previous poster mentioned and they should accommodate them better - in fact it is the law. It is a long walk from the office down to the pier. Anyone at any time can suddenly find them in a situation where maybe they cannot walk or do some other function - none of us would like to be discriminated against. To summarize four stars for awesome scenery and staff, take points off for food that was just a C or C-, not accomodating to physically challenged guests, did not prepare guests online or in the literature or on the phone to be prepared for potential of seriously rocky waves and getting wet or seasick as we were out on the open ocean. Would I go again - in a heartbeat. We were there Saturday, May 11.

Mahalo for your review! I am pleased you enjoyed Captain Kauai and our crew throughout the adventure. We do our best to provide the best service possible and smoothest ride whenever we can. The scenery and sea life provide a wonderful backdrop for this 70 mile journey. Being on a island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean present sea conditions that are ever changing so it is always good to prepare for such. There is a special place to drop guests off closer to the boat who might have mobility issues. We also pre-board guests require extra time as well. Our front desk staff need to be alerted to the mobility issue and we are always happy to help assist in any way possible. Hopefully we can achieve a five star rating on your next visit. Aloha!
