We were met by our extremely friendly guide Andres at the beach and were given a brief safety overview before getting into the water. We were so lucky to see a Hawaiian monk seal within the first five minutes of the tour. And then a pod of at least 50-100 spinner dolphins came through and we were able to kayak along side them for a good 20 mins! Incredible! We then headed to turtle town, and were able to jump in and snorkel with some huge and friendly turtles, while Andres dove down to get photos of us. Andres' enthusiasm was great and his tips for kayaking were really helpful. All in all, a great experience and well worth the price!

Highly recommend this exciting adventure! Our family of five ranged from my 8 year old son to my 65 year old father, everyone had a fantastic time! I was a little worried about the kayaking as we are all beginners, nothing to worry about! John gave a quick but informative overview of using the kayak, he was also very helpful in the water, he made sure everyone was comfortable getting in and out of the boat. John was an amazing guide, so informative and very personable! He made the trip a blast for everyone! We saw many turtles, at least seven and a Manta Ray as well, it was rated the BEST experience ever by our 11 year old son :)

Detailed review ahead! I had originally booked a boat/snorkel tour but decided to switch to kayak/snorkel after reading more reviews; evidently, the boats take a while to get to the snorkel spots & the chance of seeing turtles is lower. That's your lane if you prefer to relax & view the ocean from more of a distance. The kayak/snorkel tour is much more "up close and personal"; our group saw ~5 turtles while kayaking & then saw another up close at our snorkel spot. Hands down one of the best parts of our trip to Maui! If you're more of an active person, you'll also love the kayak portion of the tour. I really enjoyed both & would go back without a doubt if I'm ever in Maui again. I'm also a terrible swimmer but still had fun; life vests + snorkel gear make all the difference. Our guide from Maui Kayaks was John, and we couldn't have asked for better. He was extremely personable and knowledgeable, making sure we were having fun while staying informed. He knows a lot about the island & gives very thorough instructions about staying safe while kayaking/snorkeling. Our experience wouldn't have been as good as it was without him. We also purchased pictures from him & they look amazing, received in under 1 week, quality + quantity can't be beat. (Remember to tip at the end of your tour! It's obviously not required but I say best practice is to include tips for guides in your calculation of expenses. These jobs ain't easy) Parking: There's a free lot with bathrooms + showers less than a 5 min walk from the launch point. Only catch, it doesn't open until 7a (unless security arrives early to unlock the gate). Based on my experience, there's no need to arrive earlier than 6:45am. Bring your phone, wallet, & car key with you to the launch point--the guides will secure them while you're out on the water. What to bring: It can be a bit chilly in the morning so a tshirt you don't mind getting wet is a good idea (my fellow ladies might wanna bring some shorts too). Rather than flip flops, I suggest comfortable sandals so you have an easier time walking on the rocks by the water. Towels, a change of clothes, & reef-safe sunscreen go without saying. Don't forget cash for tips & you're set! If you read all this, I'm impressed. Might as well take my advice & go on this kayak/snorkel tour. You won't regret it!
