Manatee and Dolphin Kayaking Encounter

Overview
It’s an encounter unlike any other as you spend the morning floating gently in the endangered manatee’s favorite lounging spots on the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. These friendly Florida herbivores just love to nuzzle, grip, and cuddle your kayak for a truly magical morning.

The kayaking adventure continues with a search for playful dolphins, often fishing actively nearby. As if beholding these majestic mammals in their element isn’t enough, you’ll likely enjoy many other Florida natives including pelicans, osprey, roseate spoonbills, horseshoe crabs, and even the occasional gator.

As visitors in the manatee’s natural habitat, you can expect to observe and study the famed Sea Cows. Keep in mind that we seek not to disturb, overwhelm, or disrupt the manatee’s natural behaviors, but rather let you experience them on their terms.

We are Grandparents with two boys ages 10 and 8. We meet Brian, our wonderful guide right at the beautiful launch sight. Our 10 yr old said, "We had LOTS of FUN seeing the manatees! It was cool wehen our guid showed me the manatees tracks ( their circles in the water), I learned about that in school." The 8 yr old loved seeing the manatees blow through their blow hole and the tiny, jumping fish jump right in front of our Kayak. Our guide, Brian is a master naturalist. He shared fun bird facts, he showed us were the wood peckers were putting big wholes in the trees. We saw a big, blue Herron, Osprey, Pelican, Ibus, and many jumping fish. There is even a nice place to cool off in the water where you bring the kayaks back in. We will bring more family members to experience this! Thank you for the great adventure!

Yesterday we did a tour with A Day Away Kayak (Jayden) We had hoped to see the Rocket launch while out on the tour. The rocket launch was scrubbed, but the afternoon was still a great one. We saw many manatee, birds, and even an alligator from a safe distance. Jayden was our guide and was very knowledgeable about the area and the ecosystem. He made our trip very interesting while we still learned a lot. Getting to the kayak launch site was a bit of a challenge due to everyone in the area for the rocket. Jayden and those in the office made a special effort to ensure that we knew the best way to drive and to give ourselves plenty of time. The equipment provided was great and made the trip safe. My husband is blind, but was still very much able to enjoy the trip thanks to Jayden's narration. He really went above and beyond.
