Manhattan Architecture Yacht Cruise

Overview
Step aboard the teak decks of elegant 1920s style yachts, Manhattan or Manhattan II, and enjoy a 2.75 hour cruise while learning about NYC's architectural landmarks from the water. The "Around Manhattan" tour narration, provided by members of the American Institute of Architects’ (AIA) NYC chapter, is general enough for visitors yet detailed enough for the locals.
Experience a comfortable and unique tour through the Hudson, East, and Harlem Rivers from a glassed-in observatory cabin, which has sliding windows for a fresh breeze, or wander to an open bow for more unobstructed views of the surrounding sites. On this cruise, guests will circumnavigate the island of Manhattan, passing under all 18 bridges, while taking in monuments, architecture, parks and infrastructure with narration throughout the cruise.

Important note: select departures on Friday afternoons will focus on Climate Change in and around New York City. Please call the operator directly for questions on the tour theme.

Pros: outstanding environment for a boat tour, 20-25 people on ours. Great views and knowledgeable commentary. Ours provided a complimentary glass of wine for each person. Option to sit inside in air-conditioned comfort or outside at front of boat (although very windy there). Cons: too many people on-board had no interest in the architectural history and narration. Some with kids, some adults with little interest, so their talking made it difficult to follow along with the architect's interesting stories and history of buildings. Also, the late afternoon sun made it difficult to see the Statue of Liberty well, as the sun was behind the SofL as we approached it. would have been better if the boat circled around the entire Statue, so we could see it illuminated by the sun, rather than staring into it. Tip: if you want to hear the commentary, sit at the back of the interior section of the boat, which is where the architect sits. Audio can be difficult to hear otherwise over the 'talkers' on-board. Overall, infinitely superior to the mass cattle call boats. This is a better option for adults than kids. If you do take kids, they'll do much better outside than in the enclosed section which has more of a grown-up feel.

Hello, We want to thank you for your feedback and sharing your experience. It is true that this is by far better than the mass cattle boats and we aim to create an elegant and comfortable atmosphere aboard our vessels for each of our tours. We do try and steer away from having young children on the Architecture Tours due to it being very educational but nevertheless it does sometimes happen. Thank you again for joining us and giving your feedback. We hope to host you again in the near future. Warmly, Classic Harbor Line

I was born and raised in NYC and grew up in a houshold of pro to semi pro photographers who loved to shoot NY Architecture. I get back to NYC at least once a year and heard about this cruise so I had to take it. What a great decision. I booked it for me, my wife, my daughter and her fiancé. Everyone got something special from it. For me the avid photographer it was incredible. My daughter who is now just really getting into photography took some wonderful images as did her fiancé. My wife, being from CA originally, was amazed at the vast number of bridges and the variation in the styles of the buildings. The weather last week when we took it was overcast and pretty gloomy but I looked at all all through "Sepia" eyes. The tour guide with his informative narrative was excellent. The Crew was the best! The Manhattan II is a beautifully restored Yacht with plenty of space. The complimentary drink and hors d'oevres were an added treat. If you've lived in NYC your entire life, or been gone a while or just visiting, this is a must to do. I'm not going to post a lot of photos with this review because there are just too many to choose from.Take the Cruise for yourself and enjoy the splendor of Manhattan Island.
