Overview

Step aboard the teak decks of elegant 1920s style yachts, Manhattan or Manhattan II, and enjoy a 2.75 hour cruise while learning about NYC's architectural landmarks from the water. The "Around Manhattan" tour narration, provided by members of the American Institute of Architects’ (AIA) NYC chapter, is general enough for visitors yet detailed enough for the locals.
Experience a comfortable and unique tour through the Hudson, East, and Harlem Rivers from a glassed-in observatory cabin, which has sliding windows for a fresh breeze, or wander to an open bow for more unobstructed views of the surrounding sites. On this cruise, guests will circumnavigate the island of Manhattan, passing under all 18 bridges, while taking in monuments, architecture, parks and infrastructure with narration throughout the cruise.

Guarantee of a full circumnavigation of Manhattan is not included. On rare occasions, the Spuyten Duyvil train bridge is inoperable and cannot open for us to pass through. This is often times not known until our tour is underway. River closures may also occur for a number of reasons. There are no refunds for tours that cannot fully circumnavigate. We will accommodate such cases with a tour that features a double backing of the route and further detail of the waterfront sites.

Our AIA member who narrated our tour was phenomenal. He had so much knowledge about the buildings he talked about, and his information was fun as well as informative! He walked around and took questions as well, and had a great sense of humor! We loved the boat too - very comfy padded bench seating around little cocktail tables! All inside an air conditioned area with glass ceilings and windows, so you didn't miss any of the scenery! You could also sit outside on the deck - but it was hot that day! And the bar with very friendly bartenders was inside... just sayin'...

This afternoon my husband and I were participants in this wonderful experience. Our guide Joseph was indeed a fountain of information with his excellent commentary and "smooth"delivery. It is not only a welcoming cruise but also very relaxing as you are not crowded and not rushed.It was a visually spectacular tour and you do not have to have an architectural interest to truly appreciate this cruise. Also, complimentary drinks and light refreshments are included in the cost.

This cruise was a wonderful experience, combining interesting and insightful expert commentary about architecture, engineering, history, culture, urban development and demographics with beautiful views of New York, New Jersey, the Statue of Liberty, many bridges and the water itself. An excellent accompanying brochure showed 156 sights pictorially and on a route map. The yacht was cool with nice decor, comfortable seating and large windows all around, but to take photos without glass reflections one had go outside....it was freezing that day with a biting wind, but well worth braving the cold as I have many images I'm very pleased with to remind me of the trip, and Manhattan. The expert sits inside and talks to whoever's there, and it's broadcast outside where it's possibly even more audible. I strategically moved back inside every so often when my (gloved) hands started getting too cold, and sipped on a hot cup of Earl Grey tea. One hot or cold drink (can be alcohol) is complimentary, and cocktails are half price. The refreshments served halfway through were delicious. I couldn't have been happier overall - it was a highlight of my first visit to New York City!
