Manta Ray Night Snorkel in Kona

Overview
In Kona our visitors have the rare treat to experience a Manta Night Snorkel. The occurrence of an accumulation of plankton off of the shoreline makes for an incredible Night Manta Snorkel show that you get to be a part of. Like all of our tours we treat the Manta Night Snorkel with respect by not disturbing these gentle giants in their habitat.  We abide by the established  Manta Ray Tour Operators Guidelines. It is a privilege for us to take you on this trip and we do not take it for granted. The experience of seeing these massive gentle creatures in the wild is exhilarating. The Manta Night Snorkel is an adventure you have to see for yourself and is a once of a lifetime experience. Mahalo

When I started reading about swimming with the manta rays, I was intrigued until I saw that you have to float holding onto a board with lights -- DON:T BE AFRAID. This approach is the best - these creatures are very large and you would not want to interfere with their eating patterns. We had about 20 rays swim all around us getting up so close you could see how you could accidentally go into their mouths. The way the swim and flip right in front of you is majestic. Now you need to plan for this trip - it is at night and it gets cold. This boat is the best -- you have seating underneath giving you some wind cover. Wetsuits are included in the fee and yes you need one. You will be in the water long enough to get chilled and when you get out, you will take off wetsuit and get soaked under a warm water hose. This is exactly what you need but bring your towel and some warm layers to put on. I was at first questioning why this boat wanted us there so early compared to the other sites and now I know - they ensure you arrive and have access to a buoy in the best position for the rays feeding. They have excellent lights that attract food, they focus on safety first for us and the animals, and get you back after plenty of time being amazed at these creatures. We saw several that were 14-15 feet wide - just amazing. And if you get motion sick, be prepared - it gets windy at night and the boat rocks. Even while floating in the water, the rocking while holding on can get to you. They provide drinks and snacks but you may want to make sure you eat a good meal before leaving because the trip is several hours. And check out my picture -- this is the float you hold onto -- you actual want the people next to you that close because you are not moving or leaving the float. So it helps stabilize the float and keeps some extra warmth around. While you are watching these beauties you don't even know that there are others right there - you are absorbed in the moment.

Captain Bill and Gabe do a first class job of making your trip comfortable, safe and knowledgeable. From the moment you book your trip, every detail is thought through. If it's your first time or not, they treat you with respect and care. Truly, they want you to have an amazing experience. AND YOU WILL! We saw a dozen different Manta Rays doing barrel rolls from several feet to less than an inch away! These magnificently large animals will literally do back flips right in front of you. But Gabe and Caltrain Bill do all the hard work here to make your trip secure and memorable: safety, comfort, preparation and knowledge. Yes, you can save $20 by going to another charter, but it's not worth it. Manta Adventures has the boat, the equipment, and the knowledge to make it special.
