Manta Ray Snorkeling by Night in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

Overview
Why choose Eka over the others? Our small group sizes of 12 or less allow us to assist each guest, keep everyone accounted for, and move freely in the water towards the best manta viewing! Big groups stay tethered to their boats. Our 1-hour tour travels just a few minutes to and from the manta ray site. We spend less time loading/unloading and more time doing what matters: snorkeling with the manta rays!

Located in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii, Eka Canoe Adventures specializes in manta ray snorkeling experiences with a cultural touch. One of a few historically accurate Hawaiian double-hulled canoes, Wa'a Kini Kini is your unique gateway to the waters of the Kona coastline. Regarded by the Travel Channel as one of the most thrilling experiences on earth, the manta ray night snorkel experience is an activity that can only be enjoyed in a few locations globally. Manta ray snorkeling will give you an unforgettable, humbling, and awe-inspiring sensation.

Eka Canoe Adventures is a MUST do when in the Island of Hawaii! I took my 13 year old son and we had the absolute time of our lives, it's something we will forever talk about. The team is located in Keauhou Bay right next to The Outrigger Kona. It's easy to find and we found parking to be pretty available. It's a great spot for sunset, so plan to head over early :) After being given a wetsuit top, meeting the team and going through safety briefs, you'll be taken out on a short ride into the water on a gorgeous 20 ft Hawaiian canoe (this honestly made the experience even cooler!). From there, the staff will make sure you feel comfortable and get you setup with your snorkel gear and float for your feet. After the quickest swim to the board, the Eka Canoe Adventures team will turn on the lights and the manta rays will descend. It's like nothing we've ever experienced! We saw SO many rays that came right up under us, and even had two dolphins swim directly under us! The team was with us the entire time. We felt completely safe, supported - and they made it so much fun. We've already told everyone we met on the island that this is a must-do. So glad that we went out with Eka Canoe Adventures, they made a special trip completely unforgettable. HIGHLY recommend! PS - we used a waterproof sleeve for our iPhone and it worked great. Definitely bring one if you feel comfortable, you'll cherish the videos & photos forever!

We had a terrific time and enjoyed several mantas. I highly recommend EKA. We definitely would recommend them. Smaller group and very friendly.

I would give this 4.5 stars. It was a singular experience. Riding in a Polynesian style canoe (albeit motorized) at night so close to the water was exhilarating. The manta rays themselves (we saw two briefly) were awe inspiring. The only caveats: I wish the water had been warmer… it was a bit cold in late February and hard to stay in the water for an extended period…so this may be a better experience in the warmer months. Also, hanging onto a longboard horizontally is also harder than it looks. I’d say being in good physical shape or having some arm strength helps! All that said, it was an experience like no other, and so glad we did it!

Aloha! Mahalo for taking the time to leave a thoughtful review! We're glad you found the canoe ride exhilarating and the manta rays awe-inspiring. The ocean can be chilly in February, and we appreciate your insight for future guests regarding the temperatures and physical aspects of the adventure. It’s definitely a unique experience, and we’re so happy you joined us for it! Mahalo - The team at Eka.
