What To Expect

Island Queen Ferry

Once in Falmouth, you'll be dropped off at the Island Queen Dock where you'll board the passenger ferry. Your ferry ticket is included so you won't have to wait in line at the dock. Relax on a short 35-minute mini-cruise as you sail across the sparkling waters off the coast of Massachusetts.

Oak Bluffs Town Beach

You will arrive at the island of Martha's Vineyard around 9:30am. You will then have approximately six hours to explore Martha's Vineyard on your own. Your bus driver will be happy to provide you with more information and maps of the area should you wish to book additional activities.

Gay Head Light (Aquinnah Light)

Upgrade to a 3-hour narrated island tour to get an initial overview of the island. On the tour you will have a 15-20-minute stop at the Gay Head cliffs in scenic Aquinnah, where the first lighthouse was built.

Next, you'll pass through the beautiful historic village of Edgartown. Along the way, enjoy the commentary from your professional tour guides as they share their knowledge of the island's history and present-day events. You will then have approximately 2.5 hours to explore Martha’s Vineyard on your own.

Martha's Vineyard Camp meeting Association (MVCMA)

Upon completion of your day on the Island, you will board the ferry which departs at 3:45pm for a relaxing sail back to Falmouth, where the shuttle will be waiting to complete the final leg of your unforgettable day trip experience. A light snack and water will be provided on your trip back to Boston.

The Steamship Authority

Please note: For departures from April 2-May 26 and October 11-October 30, ferry service will be provided by The Steamship Authority. For departure from May 27-October 10, ferry service will be provided by Island Queen Ferry. Ferry schedules and locations may vary slightly. Times will be advised during reconfirmation.

After reading mixed reviews wasn’t sure wether to book this tour or not. For a one day visit it did the job to give you an overview of what is there…Elaine our driver did an excellent job driving us the hour plus trip. Anthony our island guide was very entertaining as well! My husband and I personally were very disappointed in the island ….We thought we would follow the coastline more….Saw lots of trees…As mentioned in other reviews the first 2 stops are brief and the 3rd allows time to grab something to eat….Happy to visit but will probably never return…Mackinaw Island in Michigan is a nicer island to visit ….just my opinion

Thank you for this 4 star review of our Martha's Vineyard Day trip from Boston. First off, I am not sure I would call close to 1000 5 star reviews and close to 300 4 star reviews out of a total of 1471 reviews "mixed reviews". (It is also a 4.5 average) Our 3 hour tour is meant to be an overview of the island. The island is over 100 square miles and the tour makes 2 stops as advertised -50 minutes in Edgartown and 15 minutes at the Gay Head Cliffs in Aquinnah. You then have the rest of your day (approximately 2.5 hours) of free time to do as you please. Great time for a magnificent lunch at one of the many great island eateries. I am glad that you enjoyed your time with both Elaine and Anthony and sorry to hear that you and your husband did not view this amazing island as most do. I appreciate you sharing your experience. Learning about the Native American/ indigenous history that came before colonialism and the revolution. This history is often not taught in the educational system.

Our driver was superb! Commented when there was info to be shared, she was funny and informative. Not quite what I was expecting at MV, a little disappointed but non the less I’m glad we experienced it. Food at Nancy was very fresh!
