What To Expect

Island Queen Ferry

Once in Falmouth, you'll be dropped off at the Island Queen Dock where you'll board the passenger ferry. Your ferry ticket is included so you won't have to wait in line at the dock. Relax on a short 35-minute mini-cruise as you sail across the sparkling waters off the coast of Massachusetts.

Oak Bluffs Town Beach

You will arrive at the island of Martha's Vineyard around 9:30am. You will then have approximately six hours to explore Martha's Vineyard on your own. Your bus driver will be happy to provide you with more information and maps of the area should you wish to book additional activities.

Gay Head Light (Aquinnah Light)

Upgrade to a 3-hour narrated island tour to get an initial overview of the island. On the tour you will have a 15-20-minute stop at the Gay Head cliffs in scenic Aquinnah, where the first lighthouse was built.

Next, you'll pass through the beautiful historic village of Edgartown. Along the way, enjoy the commentary from your professional tour guides as they share their knowledge of the island's history and present-day events. You will then have approximately 2.5 hours to explore Martha’s Vineyard on your own.

Martha's Vineyard Camp meeting Association (MVCMA)

Upon completion of your day on the Island, you will board the ferry which departs at 3:45pm for a relaxing sail back to Falmouth, where the shuttle will be waiting to complete the final leg of your unforgettable day trip experience. A light snack and water will be provided on your trip back to Boston.

The Steamship Authority

Please note: For departures from April 2-May 26 and October 11-October 30, ferry service will be provided by The Steamship Authority. For departure from May 27-October 10, ferry service will be provided by Island Queen Ferry. Ferry schedules and locations may vary slightly. Times will be advised during reconfirmation.

I did not opt for the island tour. Overall it was very overpriced as it only included the drive to cape cod back and forth and the ferry ride. Did not know that all what’s included and listed in the description is part of the tour that you pay extra for.

Did you price any other transportation options before you wrote this review? I think I know the answer to both. Perhaps in the future you should do some research before writing negative comments. Really enjoyed the trip to mark it off the list. Pick up from a nearby hotel and drive down to the ferry and back was great. Our driver was outstanding. She was a wealth of knowledge and extremely nice. As far as the tour of the island, it’s a must if you want to see the island. The guide, Tom, a local was great but he bordered several times being salty and made some off color political marks he probably should keep to himself. He’s got a chip on his shoulder about the tourists, I think, yet that’s how he’s making money. My last impression was after giving him a decent tip, he didn’t have the decency to say thank you, which was disrespectful.

We were surprised at the size and the unique characteristics of the island. It’s like going back in time in some regards. The tour guides were incredible! Coach who led our group getting to Woods Hole and back and Tom who is a true original Islander were amazing!! We highly recommend this tour. Money well spent!
