Snorkeling with turtles in Maui was meant to be a pinnacle event on our vacation for my wife. Unfortunately the day of our tour the wind was blowing quite hard, which meant that none of the snorkeling tour boats were able to make it out to Molokini Crater. The company did offer to reschedule folks for another day in hopes of better weather, but it was our last day in Maui so we had to take what we could get. Because of the weather the snorkeling was moved over to a secondary location. While I understand that no one can control the weather, and these things do happen, what didn’t make the missed situation better was the number of people on the boat. There were so many people on the boat, both the upper and lower decks, that it was hard to find space to stand let alone sit down. Because there were so many people the line for everything was a bit much; lines to use the restroom, lines to get food, lines to get on and off the boat to snorkel. Once we got out into the water the crowds were a problem again. They kept us zoned into a pretty narrow space for snorkeling which meant a lot of people were swimming in a small space increasing the chances of running into one another. Again, no one is to be blamed for the weather changing the destination of the days snorkel tour, but the way the boat was “run” makes me think that had we made it to Molokini these issues would still have existed and also put a damper on the joys of the snorkeling.

Aloha! Thank you for taking the time to review your snorkel experience! We very much appreciate your understanding when it comes to the weather. Unfortunately, we can't always do our scheduled tours, as our first priority is always the safety of our guests. Our boat is coast guard certified for 149 passengers and we do not book it to full capacity. The boat has about 3,000 sq feet of deck space. The seating layout can seem as if there aren't enough chairs, but this is done purposefully so that guests are able to comfortably move around, even when the seas are a bit rougher. Unfortunately, we can't predict the amount of people that will be in the water. With Molokini unreachable, you were diverted to another popular snorkel spot. All boats that would be at Molokini, along with the boats that regularly frequent that spot, had to be there at once. Unfortunately, there are only certain areas our boats are allowed to visit, and when the weather doesn't agree, our options become very limited. More boats get condensed into a smaller, safer area. Hence, why we try to reschedule as many people as we can. Then, when there are more people around, we try to keep our snorkelers closer so that we can keep a watchful eye, ensuring everyone is safe. We apologize that your snorkeling experience didn't go as planned, but we assure you, when these situations occur, it's not as we planned either! We hope you had a fantastic vacation while here in Maui and that if you return, you'd consider giving us a second chance :) Mahalo, Amanda M., Brand Ambassador

We boarded the boat and had access to a continental breakfast of some fruit, muffins and bread. We opted for the upstairs deck, which offered gorgeous views of the island and the ocean. Not to mention many whale sightings :) (sadly no dolphins :( ) They offered snuba dives, underwater camera gear and wetsuits for an additional fee. My boyfriend took the wetsuit, but really didn't need it. They have noodles, boogie boards and flotation devices available if you're not super confident in the water (for free) and there is a snorkeling 101 class once you get to the Molokini Crater. It was my boyfriend's first time, so we listened in while most of the others went right in. The sea life and the views were amazing. We got burgers for lunch on our way to Turtle Bay, our second location. Cheeseburgers, hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers and chicken breasts were all offered, and you could get seconds or pack something up after everyone went through. I saw 3 turtles at the second location, and enjoyed sliding off the front of the boat before we headed back to the harbor. This is when the open bar started. I believe they had beers and mai tais. It was an absolutely beatiful morning. However, we had an unusually calm day and I was still sea sick, so if you are prone to motion sickness, make sure to take something, or stay on the lower deck.

Mahalo for taking the time to share your experience and for giving us 5-stars! For those prone to seasickness, we have a drink that will help settle your stomach quickly! Let a crew member or bartender know you’re feeling nauseous, and we will get you all set up! We hope you will join us again next time you’re on the island, and the rest of your time on Maui is everything you and your boyfriend hoped for and more! -Amber C Director of Social Media

Wow! What a great experience. If you want great snorkeling and a good time, go with Pride of Maui. Not only were the crew extremely knowledgeable, each and every one of them went out of their way to ensure that every guest was having a great time. Takako (hope I spelled that right) was so sweet, friendly, and fun. She also made sure that people who needed assistance were safe and taken care of. Captain Jack also provided great historical and local commentary about the islands, whales, waves, and events to check out. Can not say enough about how great the entire experience was.
