We went on this trip this past Saturday and it exceeded my expectations! First off, they had reef safe sunscreen on the boat and told us that spray sunscreens are damaging the reefs in Maui and will soon be banned. Thank you so much for educating us. I feel so bad for all the times I’ve bought spray sunscreen and used it in the ocean. I usually get super seasick but the crew was amazing, making me a ginger and sprite drink which helped a lot. The food was also amazing and helped with the seasickness. I didn’t get to try the open bar as of course I was not feeling great, but my family loved it and said the drinks were amazing. Even with a family of strong swimmers, seeing the recent increases in drownings of snorkelers in Maui made us a little bit nervous going into the trip, however this boat is high quality and has amazing crew and lifeguards and we felt safe! Still, the water is always more dangerous than you think it is so I’m glad they had noodles, belts, and life jackets available. It’s better to use one just in case, and it mades the snorkeling easier anyway. The snorkeling locations were outstanding. We got lucky and the weather was perfect! We saw fish, coral, sea urchins, a manta ray and even a huge turtle. The locations were a little crowded especially at the Molokini crater, but that’s to be expected with such a large boat. If that bothers you, it may be worth spending more money for a private boat. I personally loved the size of the boat, not too big but not too small and big enough that my seasickness wasn’t too bad. I can’t say enough about how amazing the crew was, they made us feel safe and made the trip very enjoyable. I would do this trip again in a heartbeat.

Boat left dock late. Told us it was due to swells, but when we arrived at Molokini Crater almost a dozen other boats were there. This tour is hit and miss whether or not it will follow the itinerary you paid for. We were signed up for the full Molokini and Turtle Town snorkel. My family of five got to snorkel at Molokini for about an hour. Always bumping into people. Too many snorklers and boats crowded into this area. We sat for the lesson on SNUBA and signed all of the forms. We were split into three groups. Group 1 started SNUBA immediately on arrival. Group 2 was told they would go at 9:30 am. Group 3 was told they would go after lunch and “not to worry, we’ll call you.” Groups 1 and 2 went as scheduled. Group 3 (our group) was never called and no apologies or explanation was ever given. No one called us for SNUBA. After lunch the crew simply pulled up anchor and went back to port. One of the passengers mentioned that the boat had another tour booked and had to do a quick turnaround. So, we got cut short. Ridiculous! No Group 3 SNUBA. No Turtle Town. Very few fish. No explanations. No refunds. Stay on shore and snorkel from the beach. You’ll see more, be less crowded and will cost far less. Very surprising and disappointing considering how this company boasts its awards and “professionalism.” Would not recommend unless you want to eat lunch on a boat. I had this same tour multiple times before with other companies and boats and they were better. Go somewhere else or snorkel from shore.

Aloha, We trust our captains who have decades of experience, and if they said swells were terrible, we believe them. The other boats already at Molokini arrived earlier because they leave sooner than us, as we have a later slip time than other ships. On our website, we state our boat is coast guard certified for 149, and in the summer it does sell out quite often. We also say on the site, that locations are weather dependent, and again, trust our captains when making the call to visit an alternative location. Visiting Molokini, and being able to see the crater, corals, and sea-life far surpasses snorkeling from the shore. If you paid for SNUBA and the service was not given to you, we'd be more than happy to discuss getting you a refund. You may contact us at 808 242 0955. Several days a week, we run more than one trip. It is not and never has been our policy to cut a trip short to accommodate another without prior notice. Our trained captain and crew keep a tight schedule and handle turnarounds professionally and quickly. We do boost our awards and professionalism but we've earned that by providing years of excellent customer service, which can be read about in other reviews. We are sorry to hear your trip wasn't up to expectation. At Pride of Maui, we strive to be the best, and customer service is always a top priority. We do hope the rest of your time on Maui was nothing short of fantastic, and you enjoy the rest of your time on the island. Mahalo! -Lawrence S PR COORDINATOR

The crew of the Pride of Maui was fantastic. They were professional, personable, and knowledgeable. They really do their best to be helpful and make this excursion a wonderful time. This was a "splurge" item for my family and we had heard fantastic things from friends about their experience. I really wanted to like it. My kids and I started feeling a bit queasy twenty minutes into the ride. By the time we got to the crater, my 8 year old was ~getting sick~ over the side of the boat. When we were in the water, it was actually pretty crowded with all of the boats that were there, and it was hard to swim more than a metre or two without bumping into someone. While the clarity of the water is amazing there, I was surprised how few fish there were, and only a couple of colourful ones - most were plain black. On the way to the second location "Turtle Town," I spent the whole time in the area at the back of the bottom of the boat, where they recommend you stand if you are feeling sick. There were probably about 8-10 of us who were feeling green. Again, the staff were great - brought us a ginger concoction, ice chips, and even rubbed vick's vapo-rub on our necks as this is supposed to help ease the nausea. We didn't see much at the second location either - no turtles, just the odd fish here or there. I have a feeling this is the kind of excursion that could be fantastic for some people on certain days when the fish are more cooperative. But, if you are even the slightest bit prone to motion sickness, I suggest staying on shore. I get carsick on windy roads, amusement park rides that go round and round, but have never gotten seasick on large boats like cruises and ferries. Smaller boats are different, apparently. Once that seasickness kicks in, it's hard to function and even force yourself to get into the water. I was definitely not the only one having a hard time hanging on. Once you are on the boat, you are stuck - there's no getting off if you are sick. That realization hits you twenty minutes into the excursion when you start feeling green. Also - I was so sick that I couldn't eat the breakfast or lunch. It took about a day for us to feel well again. If you do go, I suggest bringing along some anti-nausea medication just in case, and some for your kids. We saw much more sea life, including turtles, snorkelling from shore than we did from the boat. But, to be fair, I have friends who said this was the highlight of the trip for them, so you never know! And you have the safety of a lifeguard, all the equipment, and a fun boat ride (for those with stronger composition than me!). And I heard the food was good.

Aloha! We are so sorry to hear you were so seasick and the drinks just didn’t work. Our boat is very stable, so the winds may have been a little higher than normal! But we are happy to hear you were able to visit Molokini. The summer does tend to sell out, but we do state on our website we are coast guard certified for 149. Molokini is home to a variety of fish, including butterflyfish, colorful wrasses, tangs, eels! They are wild, so we can't guarantee their sightings, but they are there! We do hope you will join us on another trip, and highly recommend our Maui Sunset Luau Cruise if you're looking for something more intimate! Mahalo for taking the time to review us and we sincerely hope the rest of your time on Maui was nothing short of fantastic! -Lawrence S PR COORDINATOR
