Misty Fjords National Monument
Alaska's Inside Passage or Southeast Alaska is home to some of the most breathtaking scenery on earth. One of its jewels is the majestic Misty Fjords National Monument. Completely road-less and consisting of 2.3 million acres, an area larger than Yellowstone, makes a seaplane tour the only way to comfortably experience the many different levels within the deep, narrow fjords. More dramatic than the Grand Canyon, the fjords are steep walled inlets of the sea. Created by glacial gouging long ago, snow capped, sheer granite cliffs rise dramatically 3,500 out of the sea, ribbonned with waterfalls plummeting sensationally thousands of feet. Nestled within the steep walled canyons, lie pristine bowl-shaped alpine lakes suspended at many different elevations above sea level. Fed by more than 150 inches of misty rain annually, the lush rain forest, made of giant stands of spruce, hemlock and cedar, cling to the rugged rising terrain. Wildlife abounds in the area, with mountain goats and harbor seals being the most frequently sighted animals. Our most popular tour lasts 2 hours and takes you across Revilliagegedo Island over to the Alaskan mainland where the fjords are located, and into the heart of the monument. Headsets with voice communication are provided to passengers so you can chat in flight and ask questions as we fly. For the highlight of the tour, we will land on an alpine lake or on a calm bay at sea level and let passengers get off of the floatplane for a quiet excursion. Relax, stretch your legs and take some photos as you drink in the silence of the vast wilderness. Flying within the Misty Fjords is truly an emotional experience youā€™ll never forget!!

A definite highlight of our trip to Alaska! Michelle, Shona, and everyone were so friendly and helpful. The seaplane tour and Misty Fjords was amazing! Landing on a lake surrounded by steep granite walls was unbelievable. Flying over the land and not seeing a car, house, boat, or anything for miles really gave me the idea of what their slogan "The Last Frontier" is all about. A huge 5 star rating for Island Wings!

What an amazing experience we had with Island Wings and our pilot Michelle. First, the airplane is amazing. While sheā€™s an older plane, she is immaculate and her vintage age makes the whole experience that much more spectacular. Felt extremely safe and the flight was super smooth; much more so than expected as I have flown in small planes before. Taking off from the Ketchikan Port is exciting and the amazing views begin as soon as you lift off the water. Michelle is an extraordinary pilot, made everyone feel at ease (6 passengers + pilot). Every seat has a great view and Michelle is extremely knowledgeable about Alaska, the area, and answered all of our questions. Landed on Punchbowl Lake where we pulled up to a small island and got out to enjoy the silence and scenery of Alaskaā€™s wilderness. We took pictures, breathed the fresh air, and had a truly spiritual moment in the middle of nowhere. I cannot emphasize enough how if youā€™re in Ketchikan this is a must do. Itā€™s not cheap, but worth every single penny and I would have paid double to have this experience. Entire staff is wonderful, Shona who coordinates all the details communicated really well with us prior to our trip and was a sweetheart through the entire process. This was by far one of my favorite experiences during our 2 week Alaska voyage. Highly, highly, highly recommend and as a father of two daughters I was happy to support a woman owned business. This isnā€™t a large ā€œcommercialā€ operation (they have 2 planes total I believe) so the whole thing is very personal and intimate. This is a must do! Thank you Michelle, Shona and staff for a once in a lifetime experience.

I canā€™t say enough good things. I emailed them and go email back. Had a pick up From cruise ship and drop off . We didnā€™t need to use it. It was easy walk for us. Plane was clean and pilot (Adam) did a great job . He has many years flighting and he even teaches flight school. He took us all around and we landed on Goat lake šŸ˜ƒ. He was telling us a lot of history and flogging all a lot of places that we could have never seen from land. Donā€™t miss this tour. It was 2.30 hours but they have different options.
