Even though our tour was delayed about a half hour (we were contacted in advance about this), it was well worth the wait! As we climbed onto the very comfortable Jeep Gladiator we were each given a bottle of cold water. From downtown Sedona we drove through Oak Creek Canyon, with several stops for great photo opportunities, all the way to the top of the plateau. It was such a scenic, peaceful drive.
I have to say that the real highlight of this tour was our guide, Joe! He was an incredible source of information about this entire area--the geological development, all the types of trees, the wildlife (who knew Arizona has herds of elk!), the history of the local Native American tribes, great sights to see while in Sedona, even restaurants to try. At the end of the tour he drove us out to the Sedona Airport to show us where we could return to view the sunset. As knowledgeable as he was, Joe had a relaxed, approachable attitude--more like having a casual conversation than giving us a lecture. He was terrific and we learned so much about Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon.
By the way, our Gladiator jeep was one of the newest models with great suspension, which made for a very comfortable ride. Our tour didn't go off-road, but this would be an important feature for the more "thrilling" off-road tours,
I have already recommended Safari Jeep Tours to my friends and family. My husband and I have now made 3 trips to Sedona and we are already thinking of a 4th--which will definitely include another Safari Jeep tour!
