We did a 6-hr combination tour: Mystery Valley in the morning and Monument Valley in the afternoon. The Mystery Valley tour far exceeded our expectations and was way more interesting than the Monument Valley portion. Chandler, our tour guide, gave us loads of info about the Dineh (Navajo), culture, his own family, and the land. He had us climbing over arches, up cliffs and having a great time. There was
another couple in our van and, despite their fear of heights, they started climbing, too and were so thrilled to be ignoring their fears, with Chandler being a great coach and us egging them on.
Also, because it was a pretty chilly and windy day, we rode in a van instead of an open 4x4 and were so thankful that the tour company was that considerate (they did give us the option of switching but we all said no!). Lastly, Chandler was a fabulous photographer - he took tons of photos of us and suggested great photo opps and ways to shoot the shot. We highly recommend taking a guided tour as you get so much more out of your visit than just driving the road yourself.
