This was an amazing experience. We were greeted as soon as we arrived, and then divided into two groups. Our group listened to a presentation on the sport of dog mushing as we toured the property of six-time Iditarod champion, Dallas Seavy. The best part of this experience was getting to pet a ton of dogs and receiving a few kisses from the adorable puppies. Having a husky that passed away recently, the howling sound was music to my ears and brought me much comfort and joy deep down in my soul. Next, we did the dog sledding through a birch tree line trail that felt like a magical winter wonderland. The guides were very attuned to the needs and safety of each guest. I would have felt very comfortable with my 7 year-old grandson driving the sled. As an adrenaline junkie, it was almost too slow for me. However, I understand the need for keeping us safe. I highly recommend this tour. If we come back, we will definitely do this tour again.

What a great experience. So informative and fun. Learned a lot from the knowledgeable mushers and staff. Got to spend time with the Iditarod champion dogs and went for a real dog sled run. An Alaska experience ticket you have to punch. Thank you to everyone there for giving us all a day we have won't forget.

I didn’t really know what to expect going in, was just excited to meet some dogs and go dog sledding. I chose this tour because unlike all the others I found, you actually get to drive the sled if you want, rather than just ride in it. I did love meeting the dogs and going dog sledding, but I was excited to also find that AK Sled Dog Tours is an up close look at an Iditarod winning machine— and I’m not just talking about Dallas Seavey (who I didn’t meet). The entire lifecycle of a winning sled dog is accounted for, from breeding and early life to retirement. You even get to be part of it by exercising some of the dogs with your turn on the sled (and help finance the operation by purchasing a ticket). The dogs are happy and so are the staff, pretty much all of whom are preparing to run the Iditarod themselves. I felt like the tour I was on, while given skillfully by nice and genuine folks, wasn’t really the point of what they were doing, which was the best part. And any review would be incomplete without saying the puppies are freaking adorable to play with.
