Amazing, exhilarating, exciting, inspiring , once in a lifetime experience. I can't describe how wonderful this tour was. We were a party of 6 friends, and booked the helicopter/sled tour on Viator over Memorial Day Weekend. The description does not do it justice. This tour completely exceeded my expectations. Here is a summary: We took off from a resort on Knick River, in a typical green Alaskan landscape. When as we were flying over the glacier, our pilot pointed out key info about the topography, and the glacier. Within 15 minutes we landed at the dog camp. We had a foot of snow the night before, it seemed we were landing in a different planet. Everything was so white, at first, it was hard to see the camp, dogs and sleds. I thought we were landing in a research station in Antarctica in an episode of National Geographic. They gave us knee high shoe covers before we took off so our shoes and feet would not get wet walking in knee high snow. Our musher met us at the chopper, walked us around the camp, told us lots of interesting things about the camp, dogs, Iditarod, etc. He showed us how to mush the sled. We all took turns controlling the sled and mushed for couple of miles. It was so much fun to see the dogs get excited when they realized they will run. We then played with the dogs and we were lucky enough to meet Dallas Seavey, the 2021 Iditarod winner and some of the dogs that ran with him. Took lots of pics then left the dog camp to our next destination, the Cataract glacier. The views were breathtaking. They gave us spikes to put over our shoes so we can walk on the glacier. We looked down the crevasses, peaked at the underground river, and were awed by the blue color of the ice. We then returned back. Some of us were a bit apprehensive about flying in a chopper, claustrophobia and fear of heights. They felt absolutely safe. The pilot was very attentive, and our musher and everyone else paid very close attention to our safety.
