One of the few attractions in Mystic is the Seaport museum. On a grey autumnal day in late October, it's probably not the best time of year to visit. However, the volunteers in the various places were most welcoming and obviously take great pleasure in talking about their areas of expertise and answering what must seem stupid questions for the umpteenth time. BUT the new exhibition building was fabulous; amazingly having an astonishing display of JMW Turner paintings. Marvellous.

My husband and i had been years back and decided to take the in-laws on our way toward home. Be sure to ask for a military discount if youā€™re entitled to one, they didnā€™t offer it and itā€™s not on the sign... itā€™s $5 off so to me itā€™s worth the ask. We walked all around. We got to see the Mayflower 2, the George W. Morgan, an old whaling ship that you can actually board. Very cool! There are all sorts of ships, a museum and the little village is super. Everyone working there seem to really be in to their job! Loved that! We only had about 2 hrs which was about enough.. you could spend half a day there Iā€™m guessing. Check it out!

We only had 1 1/2 hours to spend here. Sadly this was not enough time! We wish it could have been more. Ticket price allows you to return next day for free which we would have loved to do! But we flew out that same day. Once you enter the museum you realize it is a whole village. You are outside walking up to ships or small shops. They have a schedule of events/talks going on. We heard about whaling and toured the wooden whaling ship. On your own: The lighthouse videos were short and informative. The scale model was cool. How they made rope. Scheduled event: We saw the cod splitting. The man doing the demo was interesting and knowledgeable. Cooperage was informative about barrel making. Did not get to printing press as suggested by other reviewers. We left wanting more! A must see!
